Ch 12: Taking command

  ….

  ….

“Wait a minute here! I just completed this quest for the guards, not to be employed into the Calrius military and especially not under your command!”

This man must be stupid to think that I am blindly going to accept this preposterous offer.

“Hahaha!! Of course, of course! You have the eyes of a warrior, that is why I am going to employ you!”

  Wait what….

This guy is idiotic...I should leave before things get hectic. I can tell that I am garnering unwanted attention and the creatures are still visible to the public…

“You aren’t getting my point. I don’t care about the reasons why you chose me, I am not going to join. I refuse!”

This is the second time I refused someone because they were overbearing...I ought to kill that NPC god when I meet him...I feel as if that he’s the one pulling everything from behind the scenes…

Guard Elric and a few of the guardsman were shocked at my refusal. Normally, they thought that I was quite patriotic ever since I gave Guard Elric his ‘constructive discipline’....I just want to live a free life...but this is quite tempting since I know that wherever you are...there’s always a need for currency…

I doubt that I can leave the castle walls again unless there’s a demand for wolf pelts...but I think I slaughtered the majority wolf packs that ruled the forest territories…

  I think I have a way for this…

“Anyways, I won’t join the Guard Quarters because there seems to be a lack of discipline around here. Just yesterday, I’ve corrected a few of your men, “Captain” and I feel that you are unsuitable to lead.”

The man was surprised and the guards were frantically trying to stop me from continuing. The man’s face was irritated and suddenly he released his killing intent towards me. His eyes were gazing as if he wanted to put a hole through me.

My appearance was quite bloody but it also applied an additional effect.

As my presence was being released, the surrounding people froze in silence, neither uttered a sound or gasp.

My eyes were focused on the captain that dared to unleash his killing intent at me.

My bloodied appearance helped create a more sinister and gruesome atmosphere. My intent was far greater than this captain that was inexperienced when compared to me.

The guards quickly branded their weapons but they were still stuck in place as my presence was unshakeable.

I dropped the vine that tied the creatures together and slowly closed the distance between the captain.

My gaze was unrelenting as it affected everyone that was near the guard quarters. Several players were stunned from my presence and none of them could record what was happening. As I stopped in front of the captain, I released my pressure.

Everyone began to gasp for a breath of air and the captain was still stunned even after I released my presence.

I clutched his collar-like tunic that he wore and lifted him up one foot in the air and spoke…

“Look here, I will not be under your command. You will confer your status as the Guard captain to me and you will be directly under my command. If you refuse...I think you don’t want to experience that pain. I am ashamed at the appearance of your men. They probably learned their lax nature from you. Even if you have experience in the battlefield, you should not relax because there’s a reason why you are in this position as a leader. You should feel ashamed and that is why I will forcefully take your rank and demote you. You will now be under my command and I will show you how a leader runs things.”

I quickly reprimand the man that quivered in mid-air. My constructive discipline seemed to have worked as the ex-captain was nodding furiously towards me.

The guards were dumbfounded and some of them wanted to charge towards me but Guard Elric blocked their paths. I noticed that Guard Elric was rooting for me and his expression was grim when he saw one of the guards sneaking up behind me.

The guard was about to knock me out with the hilt of his sword but I immediately tossed the ex-captain aside and spun in a furious 360-degree motion that resulted in a taekwondo tornado kick.

The heel of my right foot interacted with the hilt of the guard’s sword and effortlessly knocked it out of his hands. The guard was scared stiffless and I emanated a powerful killing aura towards the guard that tried to sneak up on me and he fainted from the enormous pressure.

The surrounding guards, not including Guard Elric, charged at me and before I could initiate my retaliation...The ex-captain spoke…

“STOP!!! YOU ALL! DON’T MAKE ME LOSE MORE FACE THAN I ALREADY DID!”

His voice was loud and the guards that charged towards me were baffled from the words that came out of their ex-captain.

Before the guards could protest, the ex-captain spoke…

“I, hereby confer my rank of Captain to this adventurer and I will follow him under his leadership!”

I nodded in approval and the guards nearby shouted in uproar.

“Captain!! Why are you letting this adventurer do this!”

  “No captain! Why!”

  “Captain!!”

The protests continued until the ex-captain shouted in anger.

“Silence! I will not have anyone argue with my decision! As a warrior myself, you can tell if a man is strong or not and this man is far above anyone here!! Ever since I became the Guard Captain, I felt lax due to the peaceful times that existed within Calrius but I did not notice my own wrongdoings as it affected my soldiers!”

  “But Capt-!!”

“Silence! This man is far stronger than any of us! We should be glad that such a man is guiding us! I will not tolerate protest while this man is our leader!”

His words were quite truthful and my deadly gaze naturally faded away.

The ex-captain knelt on one knee before me and spoke…

“Sir, it is an honor to follow under your command. I, Theo Rindius shall pledge loyalty towards you!”

Mhm...this turned out better than I expected...I thought I should kill one of them to show that I wasn’t kidding…

Things are getting a bit hectic...the other players around here are starting to cause rumors and I don’t want to expose myself any further…

“Stand up, Warrior Theo. Now, I will take over command and it would be best that you inform everyone by tomorrow that I am the new captain because I will change everything. You will be my second-in-command while Guard Elric over there will help you supervise. I want all matters regarding the security of this city by tomorrow also. I read up on the details about the city of Calrius so I will have to make an appearance to the Lord of this city thus I need a messenger to deliver my appointment and I will make an appearance two days from now, to confer my rank as Captain. And after I leave, have those guards that are on standby to help retrieve the wolves and the Boar. They need to be properly handled and skinned.”

I told them my commands and Theo and Elric saluted me in response. The other guards were stunned but Theo immediately brought them back to reality and told them to handle the wolves that were tied by my vine.

Everyone was stunned at the current situation as they watched me take command over the city guards.

There were multiple whispers and murmurs towards my actions and various players gawked at how I took command.

After taking over command of the Guards, a notification pinged and I finally decided that it is time to check these notifications.

I quickly dismiss myself while Theo and Elric began to work on the commands I set out and the guards were still confused and most of them were reluctant to follow my orders.

I guess I need to show how much of a leader I am...tomorrow is going to be fun…

  “Display notifications!”

You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story.

This is ridiculous...I am glad that I turned off these notifications...how can someone fight when you have these windows popping out of nowhere...I think I will turn these notifications off until I reach a certain level...I think at an interval of 5 levels...that should be good enough...I wonder if the game/world will accept this command...let’s see…

“Turn off notifications for intervals of 5 levels.”

  …

  …

  Nothing happened...I don’t know...but...let’s hope it works…

Tomorrow in this world is going to be hectic...it’s almost evening...that means about 10-12 hours passed since I did this...so...about 3 hours have passed in reality...so its approximately noon right now in Japan…

I’ll continue to play the game...let’s just explore the city...I haven’t had much time to look around since all I did yesterday was go to a damn library and read books...I’ll see if I can find the training school here...I want to challenge the instructor…

I quickly leave while there was still a big commotion near the Guard Quarters. Many of the players have been recording the excessive amounts of wolves that I gathered. I need to find some clothes before I look for the training school…

Aha! Wait...I have an inventory...I have yet to see what is in my inventory...if there’s money, I can buy clothes…

  “Inventory”

A window appeared and finally displayed my items that I currently have on me.

I have a starting dagger, the iron sword I gained from the quest, 20 coppers, 10 rye bread and...my training gi!?

I noticed that my outfit that I wore before entering the game was now in my inventory. I was happy that I didn’t have to replace my outfit and since my beginner clothes are now destroyed, I can just use my own outfit.

I began to dress myself with the training gi that I previously brought into this world. Normally, people would use the equip option but I had no idea that there was a simple function like that…

After dressing myself, I finally began on my way to look for the training school. The training facility appears to be a building that has a scarecrow dummy as its symbol and many players tend to visit this training school to get a grasp on weapon types.

The instructor is also skilled in multiple weapon masteries. The instructor will guide people on the weapons and also provides training sessions where adventurers and npcs alike can train on scarecrows.

The scarecrows are near invincible. The reason for their near invincibility is because they regenerate fast but in order to successfully destroy a scarecrow, a person must use a high-level skill that has a greater damage than the scarecrow’s regenerative properties. To this day, none of the people of Calrius has ever succeeded in destroying a scarecrow, not even the instructor himself.

I follow the cobblestone paths that intersected within the city of Calrius and I finally made my way to the training school.

There were multiple new players entering the facility and at the front entrance, the instructor was greeting each person that entered.

The instructor was a fine-toned man with a tanned skin color. His height was approximately 6 feet and had a cross scar on his right cheek. I could tell that this instructor wasn’t ordinary because of the glint in his eyes. His expression was calm and gentle as he greeted the people that were entering but it immediately changed when his eyes met mine.

His gaze was scanning my body as if he were getting ready to fight me.

My gaze shifted towards him and I glared in response.

The instructor smirked and I gradually closed the distance between us. His expression was getting serious and my pace grew faster.

The line of people entering grew shorter as the instructor hurried them in and finally as I approached, he immediately brandished his sword and aimed towards me.

I backed off several feet to give some distance between us and withdrew the iron sword that was in my inventory.

The instructor smiled and finally spoke...
