Chapter 1: Unfortunate Start

In the middle of a empty temple, cut off from the world around it, stood two figures. One was battered and weary. His once fine armor, chipped and rusted. The sword on his back, filled with spiderweb cracks. The other had an ageless quality that looked like he had existed since time itself began. The many wrinkles on his face and the long white beard told volumes about his age. Although with a frame battered by time, he carried himself with solemn dignity.

“You have completed the assigned task. For that, I offer you an unique class, Time mage.” The old god intoned.

Raine thought about the class offer very carefully. That is to say, he did not think about the class at all. His decision was made the moment he read the word mage in the class name. Although he didn’t know what class he wanted to be, a time mage was certainly not it. Dreams of a battlefield filled with enemies, cutting down each foe as he approached with a sword and carving a path through the enemy filled Raine’s head. With the penalties a mage class would bring to sword related art growth, such a dream would be impossible. Not to mention all the other arts it would hinder the growth of.

  “Ehhh… No thanks.”

“I am glad you liked it… Wait, what did you say!?” The god asked, bewildered.

“Err… That I did not want to... become… a Time Mage?” The young man stuttered off under the angry god’s stare.

“Ho… And why have you rejected my generous offer?” With a vein bulging on his forehead, Chronos asked the insolent human in a dangerous tone.

“Well… A mage wouldn’t do well holding a sword. And time magic? That sounds like it is more suited for a support class rather than a hero fighting on the frontlines” Raine unhesitantly bashed the class that he had just heard of.

“You dare insult time magic, my domain? You would rather be waving a stick around than practice the noble art of time magic? Curse you human! Forever remain as how you first came into this world” With an angry sweep of the hand, Chronos casted a god level curse.

“Wha-!?” Blinded by light as a giant magic circle appeared below him, Raine let out an exclamation in surprise. Suddenly his body erupted in pain and a transparent box appeared in front of him.

Raine found himself floating amidst a sea of darkness. Bewildered and alone, he noticed a light shining in the distance rapidly approach. Raine idly wondered what happened. Instead of respawning right away like usual, something different had happened. As the light got closer, what could only be called a beautiful goddess approached. With a faint laugh that brightened the surroundings, the she asked a question.

“Haha, I have not seen Chronos that angry in ages. He was a bit harsh on you, how about I help you out?”

“What? How would you do that?”

“You see, removing curses is not my specialty. That said, the curse Chronos casted is targeting you, so if we remade your body, what do you think would happen? I have a potion that can transform your body. Do you want to try it out?”

Thinking it wouldn’t be a good idea to anger two gods in the same day, Raine accepted the suspicious potion. Warily eyeing the bubbling, foul smelling thing, he closed his eyes and swallowed it down in one gulp.

  Stolen story; please report.

  “Hahahaha”

Raine briefly heard laughter from the goddess before his body erupted in pain. Forcing his eyes open, he saw the beautiful goddess change from a women to a handsome man. A goddess that transformed into a god? Barely managing to squeeze out a few words, he exclaimed.

  “You… It couldn’t be!?”

“Hahaha, I just remembered, I forgot to introduce myself. I am called Loki, the god of deception. Nice to meet you, young adventurer. Hope you enjoy your new body.”

With that parting line, Loki vanished, leaving Raine alone in a pain filled darkness.

Waking up next to a familiar fountain, Raine couldn’t help but burst out in anger.

“Cursed!? Nooo! If I had known this was going to happen, I would have rejected the quest to begin with. And Loki, the god of deception? What has he done to me now.”

Raine immediately knew something was wrong. But he was too angry at the moment to care. Something sounded off. But seeing what damage Loki’s potion had done came first. Looking at his reflection in the water, Raine was petrified.

  “Wha-?”

Am I having auditory and visual hallucinations simultaneously? That sounded a lot like a girl’s voice and this reflection looks a lot like a girl's. No no, It must be a hallucination.

Looking into the fountain, a silver haired beauty stared back. Confused, Raine quit thinking. Regardless of his new body, he had to check the status of the curse.

  “Status.”

“At least I can gain stats and arts now… right?”

Raine hopelessly tried to encourage himself. The silver haired girl stared back at him with a cramped smile on her face. Even so, he still found her beautiful. Reaching his hand to his face, he saw the beauty touch her own face as well.

Raine’s brain overheated. Overwhelmed, he logged out. Very briefly, Raine wondered whether he should just remake his character.

It was now midnight. Drew had spent the entire day playing Evolution Arts. Unable to cope with all the sudden changes in the game, Drew called it a night and went to sleep.
