I knew that one of us was going to die. Adam just had too many advantages. First of all he had the both the elemental and physical power of a Tier 2 while me and Alice only had the elemental power of a Tier 2 without any physical enhancements. Second of all he was an Earth Core Cultivator and they can create a rock armor on top of their body once they reach Tier 2.
So in terms of physical capabilities he far surpasses anyone in our group. Plus we don't have anyone who can do any significant damage. The only one who can is Pheobe but she was only a Tier 1 cultivator and not to mention that since both she and Adam were Earth Core Cultivators he might try to kill her first and absorb her.
That's another factor which makes it difficult for us. We don't know how many spirits Adam has absorbed out in the Frontier and we don't know which element they belong to.
Our best strategy would be too just attack him all at once and not give him a chance to gain the upper hand.
After all 5 of us learned the fighting styles of each other we decided it was enough for today and we went our separate ways.
I however didn't go into my room. Instead I walked into the city and journeyed through the streets.
After half and hour of walking I finally came to my destination.
It was a small wooden house without that many windows. It had large doors and above them was a wooden sign. Engraved into the sign were several words which formed a sentence.
"Welcome to the residence of the Sunborn family."
I stood in front of the door and knocked on it 3 times. I didn't hear anything for a moment but then I heard many small and quick footsteps rushing towards the door. From the sound I could deduce they belonged to a child.
"She's really grown." I though inwardly.
The door finally opened. The person who opened it was a young girl. She barely reached my waist due to her small stature so she had to look up to see who I was. I also looked down on her and clearly saw her appearence.
She had short black hair which was tied into a small bun. She had bright blue eyes which resembled the serene color of water.
She looked at me with a confused look as if she didn't recognize me.
"Who are you?" She asked.
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
"I'm Richard."
I then heard another pair of footsteps coming from inside. This time however they were heavier then the girl's. They clearly belonged to an adult.
I saw a person come out of the corridor. She was a middle aged women with loose black hair that extended past her shoulders. She had bright blue eyes just like the little girl. When she saw me she immediately ran towards me. I briefly noticed that her eyes started to tear up. She spread her arms wide and hugged me.
I spread my arms to welcome her hug.
I smiled while hearing the women cry on my shoulder.
I looked down at the little girl and noticed that she was confused.
I smiled even wider and closed my eyes to enjoy the women's embrace.
"I'm home...mother." I said to comfort the women.
...
Later at the dinner table I sat on one side while my mother and the young girl sat on the other side.
I noticed the girl was very suspicious of me and she whispered something to my mother.
Due to my enhanced senses as a cultivator I could clearly hear what she was saying if I focused well enough.
"Mama who is this man? Is he my brother?" The young girl asked.
"Yes Susan. This is Richard. He's your brother who left to go to the academy when you were just a baby." Her mother explained.
The young girl, my sister Susan, looked at me with a look of intrigue.
My mother then turned to me and asked a question.
"So you have become a cultivator I presume?"
"Yes." I answered.
Susan heard what we were talking about and a look of suprise covered her face.
"Big brother Richy is a cultivator?" She asked.
I smiled at her reaction but instead of saying anything I simply extended one of my hands.
Susan and mother looked at my hand.
Suddenly a sphere of wind formed in my hand.
My mother gave a smile while my sister had a look of pure amazement on her face.
I smiled and then made the ball of wind vanish.
Susan clapped her hands as if she was watching a circus performance.
I smiled but then I took on a more fierce expression. I looked at my mother.
She noticed my gaze and my expression and understood what I was trying to communicate.
"Susan why don't you go to your room? Me and Richard will have a talk."
Susan nodded and went to her room.
My mother looked at me and asked.
"What is it that you wanted to talk about?"
I stayed silent for a moment before answering.
"Tomorrow I will journey into the Frontier. I might not return."
My mother had a look of sadness appear on her face.
She then started to cry lightly.
I looked at her and tried to comfort her.
"Mother. It's not something that I can't change. I can survive. I won't die. I promise."
These words didn't seem to calm her down at all.
Her crying intensified even more and she gritted her death.
"Your father said the exact same things but look at what happened to him." She screamed out in a shrill voice.
I stopped talking for a moment in order to let her calm down.
Her sobbing slowly vanished.
"I'm sorry. It's just too much for me." She explained.
"Mother. Don't worry too much. I can live. I must live. To protect you, Susan and the sect. I want to protect all of it. That's why I have been training so hard to become a cultivator. To protect. That is my duty."
My mother wiped her remaining tears off her face.
I stood up and walked to her. I bent down and hugged her tightly. I let her cry into my shoulder.
"I will protect everything I hold dear."
