In Ahmar magic school in class 1-C
" what a waste, although you have the most active magic, you as a whole aren’t that active, huh ken?"
The teacher's cold eyes glared at the back of the classroom.
"I fail to understand my esteemed teacher, I activated myself enough to do the assignment you gave us "
a lazy voice sneaked out from the classroom dark corner.
And the teacher was enraged, he grabbed a single paper from his bag and slammed it on the desk, from a far the paper looked blank, yet if you concentrated your eyes at the top of it you realize there was some ink wasted on it.
"you call this a report?"
The teacher exploded from anger.
"are you trying to be funny?" he asked.
"sir I am serous" a yawning mouth answered.
"if writing three lines on a paper as report is not a joke then there are no jokes in the world"
The assignment was to write a report about three monsters.
Kenz al dahab wrote a report that contained the name and the type of each monster, he was satisfied with that, so it was a line for each monster.
" 'write whatever you can write, you are just learning anyway' your magnificent words inspired me to write this report esteemed teacher, it can never be a joke"
Sigh, heavy air leaves the teacher mouth.
"you know, it is my mistake" said the teacher.
"that is not true esteemed tech....."
"spare me your sarcasm little boy, to think that I expected anything from you"
The teacher said in tired voice.
"well seems like people as yourself only learn the hard way "
The teacher eyes stared at ken like arrows ready to be unleashed, ken however cleaning his ear with his finger as if what is being said has nothing to do with him.
"however, because I am a magnificent teacher I will give you another chance" the teacher said.
Then he spread his five fingers.
"you will only have to write a report about five different monsters with at least five papers on each one of them"
"wait that is ...."
ken tried to refute however the teacher interrupts.
"I am expecting a 25 full written paper with font size 11 next week, we can't graduate a mage who can't at least do that"
And as if declaring the end of the discussion the bell rang to announce that the class time is over.
On the way to the dorm, two people approached ken.
They were students of the school, marked with the average looks of a side characters.
Their names were Besso and Kalba.
They also held the title of Kens roommates, a title of pure annoyance for Ken.
With a smiling mouth painted in his face Besso approached.
“Ken, Mr. Naar was really hard on you today, even if you wrote only three lines, they were the most important points about these monsters”
Finishing his sarcasm, a loud laughter echoed in the air.
“and here we though that you will write a really outstanding report"
Packing up his friend in their quest of being annoying roommates Kalba mouth started moving
You might be reading a pirated copy. Look for the official release to support the author.
"since all you did for the last month was reading books about monsters and magic, we thought it must be amazing report, well it was amazing but in a whole different way "
"" HAHAHA""
Both students combined their laughter in a one big large sound.
Ken looked at the two with annoyed eyes.
They never let go of any chance to be annoying do they
Not a single word out of his mouth, ken continued his walking as if he heard nothing.
The two disappointed in ken reaction looked at each other and shrugged.
And then the three walked to the dorm in awkward silence, it can't be helped since being roommates is their unfortunate fate.
While the trio were awkwardly walking to the dorm, a group of students decided it was OK to blocked their way.
The group surrounded the trio from all directions.
Ken looked at the leader of the group, a sigh came out of his mouth.
Those sharp eyes, this elegant brown hair, the tall stature with some muscle decoration in the body, these traits marked the man that ken ran away from for days now.
This man name was sakher Ard.
A fellow student from the Ard family, a family renounced for its mastery over earth magic.
A man that earned the third place in the last school tournament.
And a man with something silly to prove.
Ken swept the area around him with his eyes looking for an escape rout, however over than 20 nuisances were blocking his way.
A smile appeared on sakher face.
“no use there is no escape now, why don’t you fight me, you are the only student in class 1 that didn’t fight me"
Ahh annoying thing after another, this school is the embodiment of annoyance
Hiding his feeling with the most obvious hypocritic smile a face can make ken said.
"I would gladly fight you if it were legal, however rules are rules, we are at school ground you know, and beside I have a stupid report to do".
“Oh” Sakher grinned then said “the punishment report, right? The one you have to write instead of the disgraceful three-lined report, for a mage to write such disgrace you must be inspired beyond salvation".
With that remark a laughter of the students around spread through the air.
"at least my inspiration is self-contained and don’t compel me to be a stalker going after every student in the class"
Ken answer with hatful expression.
Sakher was a simple man with a simple logic, if you beat everyone in the class then you are the strongest, knowledge, experience and talent are good but if they can't let you beat everyone then they are useless.
And sakher managed to defeat everyone in the class except for two students.
One was the man who stopped him from being ranked first in the school tournament.
The other was a man who would escape the moment he sees him.
The man that stands before him at the moment
" well leaving our inspiration talk for later accept my duel kenz al dahap, duels are lega...."
"excuse me we have nothing to do with this can you let us pass"
Before sakher could continue a fed-up voice rang out.
That voice directed sakher eyes into the direction behind ken, and there he noticed two boys that he faild to realize that they existed before.
"hump besa and kalb"
"it is Besso"
"it is Kalba"
The two shouted at the same time.
"ken accept my duel"
Sakher eyes averted from the two boys as if regretting he looked at them, for him he has no business with someone he defeated, so why did he look at them, he even wasted a breath to confirm their names
What's up with me
Weaklings has no names
I must focus in my goal
Because it is the only way to......
"I refuse"
Ken frim voice stopped sakher train of thoughts.
" for someone who keep running away from a simple duel every day you deserve the title coward in all earnestly"
"sorry for being coward, but brave men don’t live long"
Brave men don’t live long?
Sakher clenched his fist.
"cowards live even less"
Sakher raised his fist to the sky and shouted.
"enhance magic, stone fist!"
Weakness may not be a sin, but cowardness definitely is.
Strength is everything thus one must strive to be strong, if you are a coward who is afraid to do that, then you are a sinner.
I misjudged you ken you are truly unworthy to battle me.
"what is going on here!"
A strict voice awakened sakher from his thoughts.
And awakened from his thought sakher realized that his fist is only few millimeters away from hitting ken face.
" headmaster it is nothing we were just having a chat, right sakher?"
A smile appeared in the unfazed face of ken.
"yeah after all I won't waste my time fighting a coward like you"
Sakher eyes were glaring at ken, a flame of detest were burning on them, defiantly not an eye that would you make while chatting with someone.
" kids these days, they are so ......"
the headmaster sighed, he was a high-ranking magician with a lot of contributions to the state, however he never knew being a headmaster of a magic school was this much of a headache.
"that was sakher Ard a promising student from a noble earth family"
"is that so and the other one?"
"sorry sir I have no idea"
"well it doesn’t really matter, anyway about the tournament"
"yes, head master"
The two headmaster and vice head walked to the master office as they were discussing things about some kind of tournament.
How did things end up like this?
Ken eyes stared at the sieling as his mind was staring at the event that unfolded today.
The report thing that happened earlier - annoying stuff.
The roommates, I am glad that they disappeared suddenly, probably annoying someone else, glad not me.
That muscle head sakher also annoying.
Damn it is raining annoyance today, actually this school has been annoying for some time now.
Ken joined the magic school to get stronger, however things wasn’t as he imagined.
Researches, unpractical theories, time wasting assignments, this school is filled with knowledge for the sake of having knowledge, not something ken interested in, ken want power, he wants a knowledge that elevate his strength, not his mind.
It is about time to finish this annoying life, soon everything will change, soon when it arrives my plan shall begin.
Ken closed his eyes as his consciousness faded into a peaceful slumber.
.................................
"ken wake up "
A gentle voice was poking into ken mind, a voice that seemed familiar yet for some reason ken couldn’t process its existence.
Slowly, ken opens his sleepy eyes, a foggy image of a wooden sieling came to his vision a sealing that is not of his own room, yet this sealing strikes a nostalgia in kens heart.
"finally awake little ken"
Little ken?
Ken was stunned, there were only two people in his entire life that called him that, and one of them being here is an impossible turn of events.
"what is it, little ken? Are you hurt somewhere? "
Ken slowly turned his head to meet the source of the voice, the familiar voice, the familiar gentle tone, ken could only think of one person as he was turning his head.
"mother ...."
"is dead "
However, the one who stood there was his uncle, a man wrapped in black clothes, clothes you will usually wear in a funerial.
"I know it is hard but you must accept it"
With a serous face his uncle announced.
"they are dead"
As if these words were a knife that stabbed his heart, ken felt a steep pain in his chest, his legs were unable to keep him standing and he found himself crouching on the floor.
"ken, your father was a warrior, a strong warrior"
Ken uncle batted him on the shoulder.
"he will regret seeing his son like that"
In the depth of despair, ken looked up, he saw a gentle smile from his uncle mouth.
"your father was strong, that is true, but not strong enough"
Not strong enough?
Ken was listening intensively as if being hypnotized.
"remember if you are strong enough you will get everything, if you are not strong enough you will lose everything, and that is why you need to stop crying, get up and stand strong"
"because strength is everything".
