B5 | Chapter 2

  Alexia

As it turns out, the tiny wormhole just leads me to another one of these strange pitch black spaces. With more of the octopuses in it. So I slaughter them all once again with anti-magic bullets.

Then I clear out more of the darkness in the place until I find another wormhole and enter it. Only to find myself in yet another space.

On one hand, I’m rather happy for the free EXP this is giving me.

But on the other, I have no idea when this cycle is going to end. Or rather, how long I’ll be stuck in these wormholes without finding an exit.

At the very least though, I manage to figure out these strange octopuses. So there’s that.

The creatures seem to be made out of pure magic and nothing else. Which is why they can hurt me by tackling me for example. And why my anti-magic bullets hurt them.

They’re practically made out of the same stuff as spell circles. Just plain and simple pure energy and nothing more.

It’s rather interesting to be honest.

I’m their weakness and they are my weakness.

They can hurt me with ‘physical’ attacks, since they’re made of magic, and I can easily slaughter them with anti-magic bullets.

On another note, I find it odd what sort of setup the System is doing for the main boss area of this dungeon. What with there being scorpions outside of these wormholes and octopuses inside of them.

There just doesn’t seem to be much of anything in common between the two.

  At all.

The octopuses are pure magic while the scorpions have such powerful defenses that even I struggle to break them.

  It’s like they’re complete opposites.

These thoughts fill my mind as I continue blasting through the octopuses in each area. Just repeatedly finding and going through the wormholes to the next areas after doing so.

Eventually though, I finally find a different area when I pass through another wormhole. One that’s actually rather bright instead of being dark.

If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.

And this one just confuses me even more. Because the monsters inside of it aren’t octopuses or scorpions.

  They’re sharks.

Sharks that are just floating in the air, and with a strange sensation around me. Almost like I’m in water but not in water.

Out of curiosity, I blast the nearest shark with an anti-magic bullet. But the bullet just bounces off of their scales instead of doing any damage. So I go ahead and try a quantum bolt as said shark is turning towards me with a rather angry look on its face.

Only for the quantum bolt to bounce off as well, making my face take a sharp turn.

  Well, shit.

The shark suddenly rushes at me through the strange space here and manages to reach me in the blink of an eye. Far faster than I can even react. And when it does, it rams into me, sending me flying towards the edge of this space.

Shit, why is it able to physically attack me?1

I grit my teeth while reverting the damage and taking a moment to identify the shark. Just to find the monster at level 2150. Which is quite a bit higher than my own level and higher than those octopuses from before.

Then I take a look at the creature using just my energy senses while teleporting far away to avoid the other sharks that are noticing me and beginning to charge.

Fortunately the creatures seem to take a little bit to turn. So it’s not actually too hard to dodge them. As long as I teleport away before they can even turn to face me.

I take a few moments to study them before finally figuring out what is up with these sharks.

And even that’s only after blasting the things with a few more attacks. Both of the anti-magic bullet variety and the regular quantum magic variety.

Even slicing through one with my polearm.

What I find though is rather surprising.

These sharks have two layers of scales.

The first layer is a layer that is normal and protects them from physical and magical attacks like a normal shark’s scales. Meanwhile the second layer and the flesh beneath that layer are all made out of pure energy just like the octopuses.

So I end up having to break through their first layer of scales with magic or my blade before revealing their second layer and blasting through that with anti-magic bullets.

Overall, it’s a massive pain in the ass.

And with how fast the monsters are, I can’t just stay in place either. Because these stupid sharks actually pack quite a punch.

Or quite a tackle, I guess.

Only one of them actually opened its mouth when attacking me though. Which ended up tearing my arm off when it did so.

But I just reverted the damage as always. So it didn’t lead to any permanent consequences. As usual.

And with that, I go ahead and slaughter all of the sharks. Albeit slowly. Because they actually have much tougher defenses than the octopuses.

That aside, I can’t help but worry a little bit about what the boss might be. What with these weaker monsters all being partially or fully made out of pure energy.

Will the boss be the same? Will I have to worry about it being able to hurt me with just regular attacks like these things?

I certainly hope not, but I get the feeling I will have to worry about that.

After dealing with the last of the sharks and leveling up some more, I go ahead and enter the next wormhole. Which, of course, just leads me to more sharks.

And after dealing with those sharks I enter the next wormhole and find more sharks.

But the next wormhole after that one leads me to a place full of sharks and octopuses. With some of the place dark and some not.

  Well this is annoying.

  Very annoying.
