10. Three Root

A wind suddenly appeared in the room and flowed into Mu Xin.

Shu Hua sat in front of him in acknowledgment as she looked at Mu Xin with expectation.

“Of course… supreme-grade spiritual root awakening won’t be normal like other grades. Thankfully, there is no cultivator in this temple.”

Inside Mu Xin’s dantian, the three spiritual roots were greedily absorbing spiritual qi in their own ways.

The golden dragon roared and absorbed the spiritual qi through its entire body, making its scales glow with golden light.

The green lotus absorbed spiritual qi through its roots, which slowly fueled its petals, making them glow with soft green light.

A crackling sound of lightning could be heard growing louder as spiritual qi was absorbed into the black cloud.

Mu Xin felt his body tingling inside as the lightning churned throughout his body.

But soon, a golden-colored qi from the golden dragon swept through his muscles, flesh, and bones, passively increasing his physical strength, causing Mu Xin to grit his teeth as the pain struck directly at his bones.

His bones felt as though they were expanding from within, yet bound tightly by another force that refused to let them rupture.

Then the green lotus’s nature energy slowly spread inside his body, its passive recovery ability lessening the pain.

On the other hand, the outside world was covered by thick thunderclouds. All cultivators in the city felt as if they were being pressured by the Heavenly Dao.

All cultivators in the city looked at the dark thunderclouds in the sky fearfully, but soon they dispersed peacefully as if nothing had happened.

Mu Xin exhaled in relief as he opened his eyes and looked at Shu Hua.

  “Sister Hua, just now…”

Shu Hua wore a beaming, happy smile.

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

“It’s your spiritual root awakening, and now you are officially a cultivator. But you actually jumped a few small realms and became a third-level Martial Apprentice.”

Mu Xin looked baffled as he touched all over his body.

Finding nothing had changed, he looked at Shu Hua with questioning eyes.

“Uuuh, Sister Hua, nothing seems to be changing?”

  Shu Hua’s lips raised slightly.

“What happened is all inside you, little Xin. The pain you felt was because you jumped into the third realm directly. Your mortal body is trying to catch up with the sudden increase of physical strength that came from a massive amount of qi. But thanks to your golden dragon root increasing your body strength naturally, and the green lotus root’s natural healing, you are safe.”

Mu Xin gasped as his heart almost stopped beating.

  “I almost died?”

He felt a strange mismatch at the realization that he had almost died unknowingly.

“But it’s alright now. From now on, little Xin, you just have to cultivate slowly without jumping realms again, and you will be alright.”

Shu Hua quickly explained to reassure him.

  “I see… that’s good then…”

Mu Xin relaxed his body unconsciously, but then perked up again, realizing something.

“Uuuh, Sister Hua, you just said golden dragon root and green lotus root, right? Are you saying I’m not having one spiritual root but two?!”

“How about you see your spiritual roots yourself?”

Shu Hua gently touched Mu Xin’s lower navel with her finger.

“Close your eyes, clear your mind, and focus all your attention here. As long as you can do it once, the next time will be much easier.”

Mu Xin followed her instructions again.

He closed his eyes and felt himself being slowly pulled downward until he felt he had touched the ground.

He opened his eyes slowly and saw that he was no longer in the temple room.

In front of him was an expanse of land with a small puddle in the middle.

He walked closer and noticed a long golden creature the size of a normal snake resting beside the puddle.

When he looked closer, it was a small golden dragon with horns and four claws.

On the puddle was a small, palm-sized green lotus, each of its petals glowing with green light, while the center had three empty holes.

Mu Xin looked at the puddle and touched it lightly.

His finger passed through the surface, creating a light ripple, but he didn’t feel any contact—only a slightly cool sensation.

He realized it was his spiritual qi; the puddle was the total amount of it.

Then he heard a small rumble from above.

When he looked up, there was a small black cloud sparking with purple lightning.

He looked on in amazement as he noticed.

“Golden dragon, green lotus, purple thunder… I have three spiritual roots?”

He stood there for a while in wonder before closing his eyes, trying to leave his dantian.

The pulling sensation returned, and when he opened his eyes again, he saw Shu Hua in front of him.

“Sister Hua, I have three spiritual roots?”

Shu Hua looked happy but slightly concerned as she confirmed.

“That’s right, little Xin. To be born with three supreme-grade spiritual roots is almost impossible. But this also means that if people know, they will hunt you down fiercely. So we can’t let others know or let you join a sect until you can hide them.”

Mu Xin swallowed his saliva as cold sweat dripped from his forehead.

Shu Hua smiled as she gently reassured him.

“Don’t worry, little Xin. There is a way to hide your spiritual roots since they are not normal spiritual roots. But how about sleeping for tonight? We can continue tomorrow with renewed energy.”

Mu Xin looked more at ease and agreed as it had gotten late.

He went to the straw mat to lie down. Maybe because the pain had drained him, he fell asleep quickly.

Shu Hua looked at him sleeping and muttered to herself.

“While my knowledge only comes from inheritance and contains everything about supreme-grade spiritual roots, seeing it myself, I can truly understand. No wonder all first-generation cultivators were monsters—they really were born to cultivate.”

She slowly disappeared, returning to the bracelet.

As the room returned to silence, the city did not.

After the Heavenly Dao pressure disappeared, all cultivators were uneasy and frantically searched for the reason.

But unfortunately, their search was bound to bear no fruit, making them spend the rest of the night in restlessness as the cause slept peacefully.
