Okay! I totally forgot to write here!
My bad, but I was just so busy these past couple days, I kinda forgot.
So, I didn’t freeze to death all this time. Cool, right? Yeah, I thought so too.
I ended up dragging a little metal trash can I found in the kitchen, into the living room and stuffed it with whatever pieces of wood I could get my hands on. Chair legs, broken drawers, picture frames.
I almost feel bad about destroying someone’s house, but also, they’re probably dead, so…
It took a bit to get a fire going, mostly because I was terrified of turning this house into a bonfire, a giant beacon to zombies everywhere.
But it worked, eventually. Thankfully I got enough juice in my lighter.
The only downside is that whenever I light the fire, I need to have a window slightly open. Otherwise, the whole house smells of smoke and grandma’s carpet.
Despite that, it’s nice and warm. I don’t need my sweater anymore.
I don’t think I slept much these days either. Or maybe I did? If so, I can’t really remember.
Anyway, the snow didn’t pile up too bad, which is good.
Everything outside looks quieter when it snows. You almost forget shit hit the fan and most people are dead and walking around like the most unco-ordinated parade on the pnet.
But today, I tasked myself with exploring more of the neighborhood, so I’ll be doing that.
12:17pm
The town feels oddly… small?
Like, I remember Red Vine being bigger than this. But maybe that’s just because everything feels bigger when you’re younger?
Or because I was usually in a car and not walking everywhere while constantly scanning for cannibals.
Most of the houses look the same.
Just, shit everywhere.
At least on the street I visited, all the houses had boarded windows like everyone was barricading to prepare for a tornado they couldn’t escape from.
I see the dead ones hanging out in small groups here and there. Just kind of standing around, existing.
I passed by one guy that was just leaning against a stop sign. Maybe he couldn’t tell when to go again.
It seemed like the cold had been affecting these guys. When I came across more of them just sitting on the sidewalk or road, one lifted her head, and when I got close, her mouth opened a bit and that was it.
She didn’t try to get up and follow me. It was like she was unwilling to move anymore.
Maybe they’re slower when it’s cold?
Cold muscles, frozen joints. Y’know, biology ‘n shit?
Honestly, I keep forgetting how cold it actually is, though. I only really notice when my nose starts running or my eyes get a bit weepy.
I checked another house about three blocks down. Front door was locked but I managed to pry open a window using my handy-dandy screwdriver.
Inside was a mess though. Boxes everywhere, clothes half-packed and thrown about all over the floor.
There was a zombie in the kitchen. He was just standing there.
Menacingly.
… At the fridge.
Like shit, I feel that. I’m hungry too but all the meat I find is spoiled beyond reason!
Anyway, I stood in the doorway for a second, waiting and waiting and waiting.
Nothing happened.
I walked past him and grabbed a couple of candles off the table.
He then made this low noise, like a sigh mixed with a groan, but didn’t turn around.
The guy must have really loved that fridge.
3:46pm
I’m back at the house.
I found some firewood. One of those houses had one of those wood stoves, go figure, and a pack of those long barbecue lighters things?
Which feels like an insane thing to find during the apocalypse, but I’m not compining.
Also snagged a bnket and a pillow from one of the other houses.
Don’t get me wrong, I looove my hello kitty bnket, but it’s really small.
This one smells weird and it’s an ugly shade of vomit green, but it’s big enough to wrap around my whole body!
On the way back, I had to deal with another one.
This dy was blocking the walk-way to my hideout. I think she was attracted to the fire or smoke coming from inside, not sure.
So annoying. Like, get out of the way, what are you doing?
I stabbed her in the head and dragged her off to the side in the wn so I wouldn’t trip over her ter.
On that note, I really need to find some leather or something to make a grip for my screwdriver.
If I’m gonna keep using it so much, I need a better hold on it. It keeps slipping from my hand every once in a while.
Snow makes for a pretty decent rag. I can just wipe blood off with it.
8:21pm
It’s campfire time baby! Hell yeah!
I moved the furniture around so the heat stays more in the living room. It looks nicer this way, plus I managed to block all but one of the windows.
I lined my stuff up along the wall too. My backpack, tools, snacks, and extra clothes I found.
Zombies are wandering around outside, like usual.
I can hear them sometimes.
Not just their shuffling feet and groans, but like, little whispers?
You know when some cats have a meow that almost sounds like they’re saying a human word?
It’s like that, but in their groaning. It’s kinda strange, but I’ve gotten used to it.
But yeah, I think I’m doing okay. Things are going pretty well so far.
Tomorrow I’ll go further into town and maybe check the school or local grocery store.
I should eat something before I sleep.
These candy bars and cans of corn, beans and tuna aren’t really doing it for me.
I think that’s why I’ve been eating less, I think.
Well, here’s to hoping I find jerky or something!
