A Future to Protect

The world was split into four countries in order to maintain their balance.

Enviro. The country where human resides and the largest country out of the three. Due to the sacrifice of Toki from his previous life. The other species had come to an agreement to give some of their land in respect for being the one who saved them all.

Morph. The country where the species Beastmen or now most commonly known as Anthrom reside. Their population not being as large as the humans, they only have a third of the size of Enviro's size, making them the second smallest country.

Poin. The country where the species of Elves reside, even in the modern era they refused to change their species' name because of it being perfect already. Although the issue about their population is no matter, considering how rare it is for elves to give birth, they have the smallest country out of the four.

And lastly, Forbi. The country filled with different types of species of monsters, slimes, orcs, goblins, and so much more. Their nature is as calm as it is compared to their previous generations. Yet their population didn't show any signs of slowing down, as they have the second largest country.

The four countries have what they now call a President to run their country. With borders at the edge of their land to protect their people, and to make sure the country is secured and protected from any illegal activity.

But with the event of what happened between Hero Rin and Demon Princess Nava. The four presidents had arranged to meet up, currently at a boarding room prepared by the president of Enviro.

Four presidents sitting down on their respective seats, three females and one male. With the male clearing his throat and beginning to speak.

"President of Enviro, Print. It's a pleasure to be here with you all again."

"It's not a problem Print, besides, after what happened to your hero... I had to see and hear for myself if it actually happened."

The President of Forbi spoke, her demeanor being calm and composed, while her slimy substances from her body made sure not to spill or make a mess on her seat or anywhere at all.

"Seriously... Had that hero accepted our help, that wouldn't have happened in the first place. Don't you think Cumby?"

Then another one spoke. President of Poin, looking at Cumby while adjusting her seat as she shrugged with some of the slime getting into the table but Print didn't really mind. As Cumby spoke back.

"I'm sure he had a reason why he had to face her alone. You shouldn't be so hard on Rin, Elvy."

"I know... But the outcome would've been prevented if he had-"

Before Elvy could finish her sentence, the President of Morph interrupted and spoke out.

"Elvy, I understand that you and Rin were close. But if he were to accept any of our help, the demons would've came for our countries as well. That's why he made sure to let us stay out of it."

"But Fura! We can handle them!-"

  "Fura's right... Elvy."

Point spoke, cutting Elvy off as he looked at her, his composure now being more relaxed while letting out a sigh. Setting his arms on the table and looking at the three of them while asking a question.

"Do you think the demons are going to move without our hero? Even with our forces, none could stand up at the top hierarchy of demons. I'm sure now that Rin's gone, they're going to move."

Fura then shook her head, denying the claim as she answered.

"They aren't. Despite their absurd physical strength and magic power, the demons know that moving now would be a risky move. Considering how much of a loss they took as well now that their Demon Princess is gone, so we're all in equal footing."

  Elvy nodded, before adding in.

"That's right, and thanks to Rin's inventions, we can manage to protect ourselves even when he isn't here without us. The only problem we had is a new hero that we need..."

  "Um..."

Cumby spoke softly, raising her hand up as if she's suggesting something.

"Maybe we could set up like a program that can uh... What was I going to say again? Oh yeah! Like a school for the new generation to be a hero!"

  "You mean, an academy?"

Print asked, rather curious and interested about this suggestion. With Cumby continuing

"Yeah! Magic is very common in our world after all, so a bright minded child out there could possess the potential of being a hero!"

Elvy would hold her chin gently, thinking about this thoroughly before asking Cumby.

"Wouldn't that only make the new generation be more in danger if the demons found out?"

  Fura would add another suggestion.

"Then to avoid any issue about that, what if we set this academy in this country instead? So far, this country has a tighter security than the all of us, what do you think Print?"

Print would look at the three of them, closing his eyes as he was left with his thoughts for a moment before opening them then answering.

"That's a good idea, although what about you three? You're not planning to let your people partake in the academy?"

Cumby was the only one who shook her head, which made the other three look at her confused. With Elvy questioning.

"Wait why not? This would be a good opportunity Cumby..."

"I know it is... But remember, my country is the only one who's not being attacked or invaded by demons due to our similar nature. Us monsters would want to remain that way if we want to get more information that we can lend to you three."

Cumby said with no hesitation, the three of them didn't intervene or propose against it as they all nodded in agreement, with Print chuckling then speaking.

"Seems like the three of us have no objections against that. Now, the only problem we're facing is how would your people, Fura, Elvy, go to the academy?"

  Fura spoke first, answering confidently.

"I suggest a railway. I noticed that you were manufacturing what seemed like a train, but the model looked different compared to what we have now."

"Oh you mean the Super Train?"

Print commented, while the three of them looked visibly baffled, although Cumby had held her laughter back after realizing the name of the said train. With Elvy asking.

"Super Train. That's the name? Really? Couldn't you maybe come up with something even better?"

Print shook his head as he pointed out the pros of the name.

"Easy to say, super cool, and most of all, faster than the version we have today. But in the meantime, it's not prepared yet so while the academy is in construction, the super train will also be in the process of being built. So, any more questions?"

The other three looked at each other before shaking their head, as Print stood up and said.

"With that in mind, I wish that you three take care of yourselves, and your country. This meeting is over."

  4 Years Later, Toki's POV.

Time went by very quickly, from being a toddler, to now being 5 years old. I admit, the life I currently have now isn't as bad like it was before.

Toki Keyston. The name that I now have in this life, before, I was mostly known as Hero Adom Thrin, the hero who defeated the Demon Lord centuries ago.

But right now, it doesn't seem like anything disastrous or dangerous happening lately. Since I apparently live in a suburb as my mother, Oracle mentioned one time. It's rather a peaceful place to be in.

Multiple houses, and clean grassy areas. I never expected to see such a sight like this again.

For some odd reason, my mother refuses to let me outside most of the time, I even overheard her conversation with someone on the phone. The conversation regarding about my situation of being a student at nearby schools.

She refused to let me experience it whatsoever. I'm not complaining, really. I do find it weird how she's rather overprotective of me, maybe the loss of her husband and my father, Rin. Took a toll on her and now she's being like that.

I can't blame her at all, I experienced the same thing in my previous life.

A vision of one of my dear party members suddenly came into my mind, their faces blurry as if I couldn't remember them clearly... But all I remember was their features of having bright purple hair.

Sighing after that, I slowly sat up from my bed, now done with my monologuing.

"I wonder what mother is doing... Probably out again since she's mostly busy."

I said to myself. I am right about that part though, she mostly goes out early in the morning for her work, which I always wondered what it is, but I'm sure she'll tell me soon enough.

I got up and got off my bed while doing some stretches. Getting constant reminders that I'm not a young adult anymore and that I am a child, for now at least.

"I'm so bored... I might as well read something."

Recently, I learned what the floating black screen in my room is. A TV or Television is what it's called, a neat electronic device that powers via electricity to show news, shows, or anything that can be streamed.

I find it interesting but I'm still not used to the modern era's technology, I still remember requiring to have fancy clothing in order to view a theatre. Honestly, I prefer the modern era.

I got out of the room without the need to rush since I was home alone, before walking down the stairs and heading to a hallway, but not before seeing a mirror hanging on the wall.

Taking a look at myself. It seems like I changed a lot regarding my facial feature, having a combination of my mother and father. Have to say, I am good looking, at a young age at least...

Though what's interesting is my hair. It's pure black all the way, but at the ends of my hair are bits of pure white. Not just at the front, but at the sides and at the back as well, they were colored white.

I think it's because of my previous life having white hair that it somehow got here in my current life as well? I'm not sure but this does look good on me so I won't complain or think about it furthermore.

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

With that done, I continued walking through the hall, passing by windows as I see children playing just near our front yard. As much as I am a child, I have the mind of an adult. So I rarely had any interest in playing.

It's not that I didn't want to be alone, but I just prefer some peace and quiet.

This is the first time I'm experiencing this... Compared to my previous life where I was ambushed, attacked, and constantly being chased by demons and monsters wherever me and my companions go.

Just remembering it made me shiver because of what I had to go through.

But that reminds me... My companions from my past life.

I'm sure they lived happily and peacefully after I defeated the Demon Lord. I do wish I was there to see how they were.

"I'm just glad I was able to protect them." I said with a smile while looking at the window.

Moving on, I looked back straight at the hallways as I continued walking. Passing by other rooms such as a workout room that my father had, a collection of various weapons which I wondered why he has all of this.

Then finally the library that my father set up for himself and mother.

Ever since my mother taught me how to read, again, I've been going to this library for 2 years straight whenever she goes to work.

I may have almost read everything here but that never stopped me from getting invested. Especially the books that father owned which had their own section.

I went into the library room while looking at the different categories of books that can be read. History, technology, martial arts, and many more.

The one that I was interested in...

  Was the section called: Manga.

I stumbled upon this section while I was returning a book for mother.

With an excited expression, I immediately began my search for the next volume for the manga I wanted to read, and there it was. Grabbing it quickly as I read the title of the manga.

  "The Key to Your Heart."

A romance manga that I have been invested, the characters, plot, and story of how the main protagonist has to figure out the way to make the main heroine fall in love with him... Sounds generic for some reason.

But nonetheless, I sit down on a chair and began reading volume 12 of the manga. I've been invested in this ever since I found this section in the library, and I've never come to regret it.

With half an hour passing by, I already finished the current volume I was reading. A sigh of relief and satisfaction to see that the romance was making progress, unlike certain protagonists who don't do anything and end up getting rejected, this feels relaxing and sweet to see.

I stood up and closed the book, walking at the section of where multiple volumes of this manga were at, then sliding it back in between volume 13 and 11.

  Suddenly, I heard a click.

One of the bookshelves would start sliding down in the ground, its as if I triggered something for it to happen.

I pulled the volume 12 out to see that there was a tiny button that couldn't be seen easily unless you look closely. A real surprise as to why it would be there in the first place, then I remembered about my mother telling me something while I was reading this manga.

"How did you and father meet, mother?"

"Oh... Well we may have met because I was reading that manga, and then when he sat down across me, I saw him reading the same manga and volume I was. Seeing someone read the same romance manga I loved made me curious about him. So that's what happened!"

It sounds sweet but that's where she ended the conversation, she never mentioned father a lot unless I ask what he was like back then.

Never mind that, there's a secret room that just appeared out of nowhere right here in front of me!

I looked to see that it was another hallway, brightly dim lights and a dark path that seemed to never end.

It doesn't seem dangerous since it's still our household, so I went in without any care or hesitation.

Walking by, it does feel a bit eerie and odd. Why would a room like this exist in the first place? Maybe father made this as his workplace? I'm unsure but I know I'll get the answer when I reach the end.

After a few minutes I reached the end of the hall. Only to see a small room with a small shelf that was stacked with multiple books, and a work desk along with a chair. That was it.

I carefully entered the room to see that it was brightly colored and styled, rather fancy I will say, with a chandelier at the ceiling. It wasn't powered by electricity or fire. But with magic instead.

I can tell with how I'm sensing little magic power from it just enough to keep the chandelier lit and alive. It must have been father's magic power.

With that in mind, I walked towards the desk only to see an envelope, two of them. But the other one was already opened so it seemed like my mother already knew this place. The letter was nowhere to be seen so I assume mother took it.

One was written: For Toki. And the other one was: For You My Love.

It seems like father left this before he went and fought the Demon Princess.

"But why would mother not let me see this?"

I asked myself, then remembered I still am a five year old child so that's probably the only reason why.

Without hesitation, I grabbed the envelope for me and opened it, taking out a letter which said:

  My son Toki.

If you're reading this, you're probably all grown up now aren't you? I left this letter just for you so that you know that I didn't leave. I just have duties as this country's hero. So if you're wondering where your good ol' dad is. I'm out on an adventure! Being a hero is fun and all, but I do miss being able to do whatever I wanted like I was when I was your age. Reading, playing, and most importantly-

"Studying magic..." I said, being interested in studying magic now that it's in the modern era, before continuing to read.

Studying magic you wonder? Well ever since the Demon Lord was slain, peace was spread throughout our world. The demons haven't been active ever since, and lately, it's been getting out of hand... So if you want to learn more about magic, I wrote it all in that shelf that I made. It's up to you if you want to learn, but there is one thing I do want you to do. Don't be a hero, Toki. I want you to have a peaceful life without any danger or loss. I've already lost a lot of friends because of the Demon Princess. So as my final wish, just make sure you have fun and enjoy your life alright son? Take care of your mother for me too. You two, are the most precious people in the world. Your father, Rin.

I couldn't help but feel rather touched and happy to see father doing his best for us. He really is an amazing man.

But for him to wish that I shouldn't be a hero, I felt my heart drop when I read it for the first time.

As much as I want to, after watching your battle with the Demon Princess. I don't think I'll be able to stop myself, father. I'm going to be a hero that you can be proud of.

After I finished reading that letter, I slowly fold the letter again, putting it back inside the envelope and making sure it's back to it's original state before looking at the side to see the tiny shelf that father told me about.

Only about 5 books were there and they were based off of different colors. One red, black, white, purple and blue.

I reached out to pull the black book first not before taking a look at it, the name on the cover said: The Concept of Magic.

I was very curious on what it is. Since back then, not much studied about the magic in my time. All we knew is that we get stronger each monster we defeated and that it's something the Gods bestowed to us as a blessing to protect ourselves from evil.

That's all there was to it, so to see my father studying the very concept of magic had me hooked. Immediately, I opened the first page, beginning to read not before sitting down on the chair.

'Magic Core. The very essence of our being that make us able to use magic. Not much have realized or studied as to why we could use magic, but for me, I found it odd. So I made sure to study the concept of how magic is produce and is made. And my answer is the Magic Core. Similar to a heart, it's a beating life force that makes us use magic by our own. Showing that we have two Cores in the human body. The Life Core, which is essentially our physical being, cells, organs and so on. Then the Magic Core, working rather differently from the Life Core, it has produced its own cells, the M-Cells as I should call it. It's the very reason as to why we are able to cast and produce our very own abilities. For years, decades and centuries even. As humanity continue to evolve and repopulate, multiple people have begun using magic. With the help of technology, we are able to progress even further and beyond. But I'll be researching and studying this further more.'

I was stunned and surprised that such a thing existed, I didn't even know that we had two cores all along. To think I had a father this intelligent and smart...

"Seriously... You never fail to amaze me, dad."

I close the book, assuming that it might be late, I may as well bring this to my room. As I got off the chair, I was about to leave but then remembered the other four books.

My curiosity was being tempted even more. I could learn and study this while mother isn't home as well... And of course continue the manga I was reading.

Being unable to resist, I grabbed the other four books and was about to leave. Not before taking a look at the room that my father had studied from.

  "I'll do my best."

I said with a smile, before running out the hidden workplace, making sure I don't drop the books. Though it proved difficult with my short stature, almost even tripping and stumbling on the way out.
