Chapter 3

In Wander Village, the chief named Sebas was meeting with two dark, silhouetted figures. They spoke quietly inside his office, unaware that Pik had accidentally overheard their conversation from outside the window.

  Sebas spoke with caution.

“I cannot give permission to enter the tomb. If the decision were mine alone, there would be no problem. But I must consult the three elders. This is a dangerous matter—one mistake, and I could risk everything.”

The two figures said nothing. They stood tall and intimidating, their silence filled with pressure. Their posture alone showed impatience and disagreement.

After a long moment, Sebas exhaled heavily.

“Fine. I will ask the three elders for a pass token.”

At those words, the figures finally showed satisfaction. One of them reached beneath his garment and pulled out a small box from his chest, handing it over. Sebas accepted it reluctantly, his expression dark.

“If anything goes wrong,” Sebas said coldly, “you will deal with the old bones. I want no part in what follows.”

Without another word, the two figures dissolved into the shadows, vanishing like masters of the dark arts.

  Pik had heard everything.

His heart raced with excitement. Treasure had always been his weakness. Later that day, when his father left the office, Pik sneaked inside. He carefully opened the box, stole

Pik, who had always loved treasure, had heard everything. His heart pounded with excitement. When his father left the office later that day, Pik sneaked inside, stole what was hidden inside the box, and carefully placed the empty box back where it belonged.

Later, Set spoke while looking at the stone.

“So that’s how you uncovered the secret of the tomb. It was all written in the journal you took… and this stone too.”

  Pik grinned proudly.

“Yes. And we’re the first ones to discover the treasure left behind by the mister who fell from Heaven.”

  Sef frowned.

“Wait—how do you know he fell from Heaven?”

  Set sighed.

“It’s written in the journal, you meathead.”

Pik flipped through the worn pages.

“It says here that before he died, he left behind a treasure. And whoever finds it will be—”

  Set leaned forward eagerly.

  “Will be… what?”

Pik paused and scratched his head.

“The page was torn out. I don’t know the rest. But if someone went through the trouble of ripping it out, then whatever they’re looking for must be extremely valuable.”

  He smiled greedily.

“And we’re going to get it.”

Sef looked around uneasily at the surrounding graves.

“But this place is terrifying. How are we even supposed to find it?”

A chill ran through their bodies as the graveyard seemed to stare back at them. At that moment, they noticed Shin and his friend walking down the path toward them.

  The three exchanged dark smiles.

  Pik whispered,

“Look. A sacrificial lamp is coming straight to us.”
