Chapter 18: The Healers
Due to the children’s interference, Charlie stopped charging her powers.
When the fight finally ended and Charlie came back to her senses, she was exhausted—and stunned—to see D bleeding, his wounds refusing to heal.
“What happened to you?”
“Why are you not healing?”
“I’m mortal now,” D replied.
“What do you mean by that?”
“Well, I locked away my powers to live a normal life,” D said weakly, blood dripping from his mouth.
“Ergo… no healing.”
“How far did you go toward having a normal life?”
Tch. “Don’t answer that. First, get him inside. Someone might see this and a huge misunderstanding could be created.”
“Don’t worry, Mom,” Jack said calmly.
“We put a psychic barrier around the house. Nobody can see or hear us.”

“How the hell do you know about barriers and powers?” Charlie asked, baffled.
“What?” Jason snapped.
“Did you think the hyperactive and menacing kids of yours suddenly gained divine knowledge or what?”
“Enough!” Jack cut in sharply.
“Now is not the time for this, big brother.”
Ash finally got to his feet.
“Don’t worry,” D said, forcing a weak smile.
“I’ll explain everything. That is my word to you.”
“We can’t take him to the hospital like this,” Vincent said.
“Should we call the twin girls to come here?” Val asked.
“Yeah… do that,” D replied.
“Who are these twins you’re talking about?” Charlie asked, confused.
“They’re Aunty Red’s daughters,” Jack answered.
“What?!”
“What the hell is going on?”
“Do all the children in our family have powers now?”
“Fuck this. I need some fresh air,” Charlie muttered before storming toward her bedroom to change.
Ashdon followed her, trying to console her.
Mapple Tanaka, a.k.a. Red, is Darwin’s and Ash’s elder sister.
Ash returned alone, a defeated look written clearly on his face. Unable to convince Charlie, he said nothing. Moments later, the front door slammed shut as Charlie left the house.
“Tch. Anyway,” Ash said.
“Why are we calling the kids? Why not call Big Sis herself?”
“Isn’t she a doctor?”
“If you’ve forgotten,” D replied, coughing up blood,
“she’s the Doctor of Death, not a doctor of life who saves people.”
“Whereas her kids are genuine healers,” Vincent added,
“who can heal Dad ASAP.”
Charlie left in frustration, and Ash decided to let her be for the time being.
Half an hour later, the twin girls arrived.
Shila and Swastha—daughters of Mapple Tanaka and Rajiv Alhawat, a.k.a. The Vulture.
“Why did it take you so long?” Val asked.
“Sorry, Big Sis,” both girls replied in unison.
“We don’t live in the city anymore. Dad decided to move out a few years ago.”
“Okay, okay,” Vincent sighed.
“Why do you two always talk like that?”
“Which way?” they asked together.
“Leave it,” Ash said impatiently.
“That’s not important. Hurry up and heal D.”
“Yes, that’s what we’re here for,” they replied in sync.
“Where is he?”
“I think they do this on purpose,” Val whispered to Vincent.
“Will you shut up?” Vincent muttered back.
“It’s not the time for this, Miss Impulse.”
“Okay, Mr Caution.”
The twins headed toward the bedroom, following the others inside.
