Chapter 10: He, the Anchor of Fate.
~~~ [START]
“You ready?” Honey questioned, her figure standing halfway between the door, staring at Troy, who was approaching with a backpack.
“Um, yeah,” Troy said, following as they walked out. Then, after they exited, Honey locked it while smiling at Gina, who was endlessly beeping the hooter.
Troy entered the backseat after walking to the car. “Aren’t you supposed to be running the diner? And when’s your uncle bringing the truck?”
“Bringing it? He ain’t bringing it, his old. Get it yourself.” She turned to Honey, who entered the passenger seat, and complimented her clothes while shouting the word ‘period!’ and clicking the edge of her fingers. “And don’t stress about the diner, I got that sorted out.”
Troy raised a brow. “What about the truck? Why didn’t you bring it?”
“Cos you cheated on me.”
And they both giggled at the words, with Troy slightly chuckling behind them.
The drive was easier than he hoped, with Gina talking about the scandals and happenings within the many clubs she would illegally visit. But what was unknown to him was that Honey was not that innocent; in fact, before he got to Forks, she would rarely visit those very same clubs. So, her cheeks occasionally reddened every time Gina mentioned them.
“I need some coffee. I’m pulling up.” Gina turned into the drive-through of a McDonald’s. Ordered a breakfast bundle, then turned to Troy, who was seated behind them.
“What?” Troy raised his brow at her actions. Noting how she halted everything, from the music to the little gossip she was spouting with Honey.
“Go ahead, you’re the man, aint you…” She pointed at the woman waiting in the McDonald’s window. “Pay up.”
Honey laughed from beside them.
Troy just clicked his tongue, pulled out some cash from his pockets, and then passed it over.
Gina handed the woman the cash. “Keep the change.”
Then she drove off.
Troy just smacked his head. And although he was a complainant, he could at least appreciate the fact that she gave him a share of the meal.
And then his eyes locked with Honey’s, who was watching him from the rearview mirror. But she didn’t look away; they just smiled at each other, with their eye contact only broken by the loud chaos erupting when they arrived on school grounds.
Honey straightened. “What’s happening?”
“It’s a fight!”
A faint smile appeared on Troy’s lips when Gina said it.
“Shit, they are blocking the driveway.” Gina stopped, pulled the emergency brake, and stepped out.
Both Troy and Honey stepped out after her.
And on the other side.
“Michelle, I’m not playing with you. Move your car from my spot!” A masculine lad said, pushing a skinnier one to the ground.
“Yeah, fuck you, man, we both know this isn’t about the car!” Michelle shot.
The lad bolted to him and lifted him by his collar, “Say that shit again, say it!”
He prepared a punch, but his hand was slapped to the side by another.
“You’re causing a scene.” The one responsible said.
“Tyler?!” The lads’ eyes widened, “Oh, so you with him now?”
Tyler pulled him away, “I know Candic did a number, but this is some degrading shit, man, you’ll get expelled.”
The lad shrugged Tyler’s hands off.
“Que, get your car off the freaking driveway!” Gina said, swaying her hips as she neared them.
“Fuck you!” Que shot back at her, but his words stumbled when his eyes landed on Troy, who was walking a hair’s breadth beside her. Wearing a short-sleeved shirt that revealed most of his tattoos, with rings that would easily be mistaken for knuckles.
In fact, he wasn’t the only person who was staring at him, because from the moment Troy stepped out of Gina’s car, he had, for the most part, become the spectacle.
Honey laughed under her breath, grabbed his arm, and then started pulling him away.
Que just clicked his tongue, straightened himself, then retreated, bumping on both Gina and Tyler’s shoulders when he left.
And on the other side.
“I told you this would happen.” Honey laughed when she said it, hands still pulling him from behind her.
Troy shrugged his shoulders, “Na, let them see it, don’t want it to be a topic in the middle of the year or something.”
“School isn’t what you see on TV.” She said with confidence. But Troy turned to the dozens of eyes trailing on them.
“Of course it’s not.” He chuckled when she pulled harder.
Troy’s eyes then turned to the hundreds of children walking up and down the hallways. It was the first time he had been cramped with so many people, so the scent was somewhat stimulating to him.
“Okay, the reception might give you the timetable, so just follow—”
“In a rush or something?” Troy questioned, a brow raised at her words. “Why can’t you come with me?”
She muttered something under her breath, eyes turning to a far distance, then turning back.
“I can’t.” She said, regret lurking in her expression. “I’m class president… so, I’m supposed to fill in the register.”
She threw an immature punch at his chest, but even then, his clothes didn’t move an inch.
“Go by yourself. And if you’re lucky, we might share some classes.”
Then she bolted away, her bag nearly falling from her shoulders because of the uneven speed.
Troy just smiled while shaking his head behind her, truly questioning if the event she mentioned deserved the title of luck.
