Interlude

Kat walked out of the door. Riven chugged the last of his beer.

He turned towards Dante and asked, “Hey Dante, I also have to go somewhere can I go?”

“Yeah yeah, just go back to headquarters by like 10 pm,” Dante responded.

Riven stood up and walked out of the bar. He walked through the streets and through sketchy alleys until he reached a tall building with twenty floors. He approached the elevator and waited for the doors to shut. He then pressed on the floors 3, 2, 8, 11, 19, 16, in that order. The elevator started rising, but it didn’t stop on any of the floors. Instead it went to floor twenty-one. He walked in and was surrounded by Spectrals.

  “Name?” one of them asked.

  “Null,” Riven said.

The Spectrals opened a path for him and he headed to the room at the very end of the hallway.

As he opened the door and stepped in, he was greeted by a person sitting on a chair. The back of the chair was facing him, so he couldn’t quite distinguish what the person looked like.

It was silent until the person spoke with a smooth voice, “Finally came back, Null?”

  “Yes, miss,” Riven said.

“How is my dear Katelina doing?” the voice asked.

“She is doing well. We’ve been on multiple patrols already and she seems quite skilled at combat.”

“Has she… unlocked her skill yet?”

  “No, she hasn’t”

  “Anything else?”

“We did have a mock battle with Group 4. Her plan was essential to our success..”

“Very well. Have you met Nightshade yet?”

  “Yes.”

  “And how is he doing?”

“He seems to be doing fine, just like his normal self.”

“Good to hear,” the voice said. “You may leave now.”

Riven walked towards the door and before he left he gave a bow and said, “Until we meet again, Phantom.”
