Chapter 17: A great day

I sat on my chair, anticipating for the sun to set which there will be colorful fireworks.

"What a coincidence? We're sitting right next each other."

I heard a girls voice next to me, I turned to see Amelia.

"What do you want." I groaned.

  She cover her mouth.

"Geez, what's with that attitude?" She said sarcastically.

"Afraid, I'll work you up again peasant?"

I bit my lips, clenching my fist.

How ironic for Claudia to say that she was actually a nice and caring person.

  She's still messing with me.

Am I an exception? Does she hate boys or something.

"Why are you always so mean to me?" I said.

She gave me a smug smile and looked ahead at the setting sunset.

  "Heh...I like you." She scoffed.

"Like me? How is torturing me to death make up for that?" I said.

  She chuckled.

"Just think of it as my sign of affection." She said.

A sign of affection? How was making me do grueling work your way of showing love.

  What a joke.

"Fine, don't believe me. I was just trying my best to make you a MAN. The first time I saw you, I was disgusted by your appearance-"

What did this slut just say!?

I bit my lips even harder to the point blood was drooling out.

I clenched my hand to form a fist so hard.

My fingernails was digging into the skin and bleeding.

"I mean, you looked like the most horrendous person in the world! That's when I knew, you were weak!"

  Weak?

I'll show you what weak is!

"That's why I was so harsh. To make the man the world needs! How can you live in a society where everyone has expectations for you!"

  Well...she wasn't wrong.

The world was a cruel place where society want you to be a bootlicker whilst the rich joyfully enjoy their shoe getting cleaned.

That's how it worked back in my original world.

But it was rather that Asian culture focused more on collectivism rather than individuality.

If a nail sticks out hammer it down.

And the constant pressure and burden to be successful by our parents or rather adults.

  Was the worst.

Just how many times I wanted to do it was just horrible.

No wonder I've always daydreamed of getting isekai'd.

But making me the man society needs?

Was just wrong. Not every guy needs to become a strong man.

I wasn't thinking of fighting back.

Because there wasn't really a point for me to do so anyway.

I'm not that of an easy person to get angry...

  Which was ironic.

"That's why I torture you to death." she finished her sentence.

I just looked at her before nodding.

"You don't seem to care?" She said.

"Yeah no shit sherlock." I replied.

  "Who's sher-"

"No one! Just a no one." I cut off her.

She just looked at me, tilting her head and with a confused expression.

"And also...I'm sorry for what happened to your father." I said quietly.

Her eyes widened but reverted back before she looked down.

  "Heh...thanks."

We just stayed quiet, not even looking at each other.

"Well, this is rather awkward. I will just change seat." She got up and left.

  "Yeah, bye."

  Ding! Ding! Ding!

I heard a glass bottle being ringed, I looked up to Sabine getting everyone's attention.

"Thank you everyone who has come here for our founding!" She said.

"Today is May 21 1314 which was the day our founding fathers formed our beautiful empire of Nathland! This is our 600th anniversary. In just a couple of minutes, we would we fireworks light up near the Central Drunard train station!" She said.

She raised her arm and pointed at the station which had a giant clock tower.

It was 9:58. When that clock reaches 10 o'clock, the fireworks will fire.

  9:59.

  Just one minute left.

"Your just sitting her alone?" I looked next to me to see Laura.

  "Yeah? What's wrong?" I said.

"Don't know seemed kinda lonely." She said.

"Or your the one who was lonely." I replied.

She chuckled, her hand over her mouth.

“How did you know?” She said.

“Your face always tells that.” I replied.

“Is it really that obvious?” She said.

  “Always.”

“Oh it's about to begin! Let’s count down.” I said.

I looked back at the clock tower, slowly reaching its 10 o’clock.

  …

  Nothing.

  Nothing was happening.

My face turned stone cold and frantically looked around.

The other residents were just as confused as I was.

  But then.

  Whizz!!!

I looked back at the station.

I saw a trail of sparkles flying to the sky.

  Until.

  Bang!

The sound ripples through the air.

The fireworks lit up the station.

  And then.

  Whizz!

  Another one!

  Bang!

  One after another.

  Multiple fireworks released.

  All diverse and colorful.

Everyone clapped in amazement and cheering.

I saw Sabine smiling as she looked at the fireworks, her eyes lighting up.

I looked at my sister. With the same eyes.

  I sighed and whistled.

  Whistle

  I then looked down.

Seeing all the buffet on the table.

I couldn’t contain myself to devour them!

Then I felt my back being tapped.

I looked to see Laura handing me something.

  “What is this?” I asked.

“It’s a chocolate bar! Happy founding!” She said.

  My eyes immediately lit up.

A chocolate bar!? I snatched the bar out of her hand.

Trying to rip off the wrapper.

  But I realized my mistake.

I turned my gaze to look at her.

“Sorry for snatching…And thank you very much! Happy founding!” I said.

I came in for a hug. Arms wrapping around her waist.

Before taking my hands off to eat the chocolate.

I closed my distance between the bar and my mouth.

  And then

“Mmm! This is delicious! How did you get this!” I said.

“Just a month of saving!” She said.

“A month? Was this chocolate that expensive?” I said.

  “Eh.”

I instantly filled with guilt, a month of saving just for a single chocolate bar just for this moment?

“I’m in your debt! I’ll work hard and get rich. Get our family out of poverty and we’ll get a thousand chocolate bars!” I yelled.

  She just laughed.

“Oh, kid. There’s no need for that. Just enjoy the moment.” Then she patted my head.

I reverted my look on the bar before devouring it.

I had to DRASTICALLY change her entire character or characterization because I didn't like her old self but I didn't want to just change her character immediately, confusing the readers on why shes acting this way now when a couple of chapters ago, she was a narcissist.

But I like how Amelia turned out.
