“Oh I can let Officer Jenny know for you” Nurse Joy said with a smile and a wink. “Wait Nurse Joy, it’s okay. I’ll let her know that I’ll be in the City” I tried to insist. “It’s okay, she already heard. She was sitting here with me while we were on the phone. She left with a red face saying something about coordinating breaks and lunches tomorrow. It sounds like you two might get to have a nice picnic lunch” Nurse Joy said covering her mouth and giggling. “Okay Nurse Joy, I have to go now. Thank you for everything” I said trying not to sound completely defeated. “No, thank you for everything Austin, and thank you for the show” Nurse Joy said smiling with her eyes closed.
Finally off the call, I slumped into the chair letting out a long sigh. “These women are going to be the death of me” I said quietly. (I really like how cute Jenny is, and her sense of Justice. Also, her attention to detail, and how much she seems to love Pokémon just like me) I thought to myself. Tomorrow was now going to be a bigger day in more ways than I thought, so I immediately got cleaned up and went straight to bed. (Hopefully tomorrow will go well) I thought as I closed my eyes.
The morning went as usual, and all of my experiment Pokémon were growing steadily. Some were starting to move up the ranks in their flocks, herds, and corrals. They were gaining confidence as their size was increasing, their features were sharpening, and they almost seemed a bit more in tune with their natures. So far, there didn’t seem to be any downsides to this diet. Cost wasn’t much of factor either as the raw ingredients in bulk were just slightly cheaper than the standard breeder food. “I know it’s only been a weak, but I can feel that this is working. Just have to see this through to the end” I said to myself.
When I went back inside, I got ready for the day and put on some new clothes that Professor Oak had given me. A red collared short sleeve button up and some navy slacks with a pair of black shoes. “Not bad Professor, I look pretty decent besides the face” I said laughing in the mirror. I threw on my cooking apron I wear when I cook the Pokémon their food, and made a picnic lunch. Back on Earth, I loved cooking in all its forms. Making quick meals over the fire, cooking something gourmet in the kitchen at the lab, or baking a special dessert or candy. Cooking and music will always hold a special place in my heart, as I had grown up in the kitchen dancing and cooking with my family. I miss them, but I have so many that need my love and attention here that I don’t have much time to worry about them. Maybe one day I will see them again, or maybe they will see me? Life’s full of mysteries.
Po, Rapunzel, and Cha were exploring Route 1 while I carried my backpack and a basket with the food. I had made some simple meals for Jenny and I plus our Pokémon. Not sure which Pokémon she had, but I have a feeling it is a Growlithe. Nervous, excited, and curious I kept up my march to Viridian City. As we got closer, I could hear some noise coming from over the hill which wasn’t unusual, but for some reason I could swear it sounds like a freight train was coming towards us. “Get back here Onix!” I heard a familiar voice crying from the other side of the hill. “Rapunzel, get ready to use Vine Whip. Po, get ready to use Wrap. Cha, get ready to use Sand Attack! I called out to all three of my Pokémon. All three got into position as we waited for Onix to crest the hill. “RWAR ONNNN” Onix yelled as he came charging over the hill. “NOW” I yelled, and immediately Onix was stopped dead in his tracks. He couldn’t see, he was tied down with Grass Energy, and also tied down with Normal Energy. “Onix, return!” Nurse Joy said holding up the Pokéball and returning Onix. “Thank you kind strang… Austin! Thank goodness it was you coming. You all handled that perfectly. Now you see why I called you yesterday, this has been almost everyday…” Nurse Joy said looking defeated. “No problem Nurse Joy, like I said, I think I know what this is. How much Iron has he been getting per day?” I asked her. “Iron?” Nurse Joy looked confused.

After we cleaned up, we headed back to the Pokémon Center to help Nurse Joy. I also, sent Cha to see where Jenny was so I could invite her to lunch if she wasn’t too busy. “When we get to the Pokémon Center, can I use your phone to call Professor Oak?” I asked Nurse Joy while we were walking. “Of course, what did you want to talk to him about?” asked Nurse Joy. “We need to buy all the iron we can find on short notice. Onix needs as much Iron has he can get, only when he gets enough will he evolve and calm down” I told her. “Okay, sounds like a… Did you say Onix is going to evolve?” Nurse Joy looked shocked. “Yes, he needs as much iron as possible so he can evolve into Steelix the Steel and Ground Type Pokémon” I said doing my best Professor Oak impression. “Also, I am going to need you to sign some waivers of confidentiality…” I said looking over at Nurse Joy.
A short phone call later, and we were at Michael’s PokéMart getting all the iron he had. “This seems like an odd thing to need?” Michael questioned us. “It’s for a sick Onix” I said back. “Huh, I knew that they ate rocks, but I never knew they needed specific rocks” Michael said scratching his head. “Yep, thanks again Michael!” I said after I loaded it all into my bag. “No problem! If you need anything else just give me a ring!” Michael said waiving good bye. When we got back to the Pokémon Center, Jenny was waiting there for us wearing a black V-neck shirt and blue jeans with a pair of cute white and blue shoes on. “You look amazing” I said without thinking. “Thank you!” Jenny said with a blush. “Come on love birds, we need to help Onix first and then you can go on your picnic” Nurse Joy said sounding grumpy.
We transferred Onix’s Pokéball to me, and got everything set up in a private yard behind the Pokémon Center. As soon as I released Onix, I called to get his attention, “Onix buddy! I know what you need! Here, I got a whole bunch for you!” I said showing him the pile of Iron we had made. We also had some Iron supplements in the pile too to help as much as possible. “It’s all yours buddy, just please don’t hurt anyone! We will get you more if you are still hungry after I said. “Onnn ix ix” he said and slowly scooped up the iron bit by bit till it was gone. 10 seconds after his last bite he started to glow. “I knew it!” I shouted. “Get ready to meet a new Pokémon!” I called out to Nurse Joy and Jenny. The white light kept growing, growing, and growing. Steelix was becoming way bigger than it should be. It looked to be heading towards 40ft long, but then it kept going… Finally somewhere around 45ft long he had broken the entire yard and stopped glowing. There stood a goliath of a Pokémon! Potentially the biggest Steelix ever seen! “Steelix! Are you feeling better buddy?” I yelled up to him. “STEEL STEEL” he called back loudly. He came dow to where I was standing and slammed his head into me as softly as he could muster with his new size. “I think he is saying thank you!” said Nurse Joy on my right.
After all of my Pokémon helped clean up the destroyed yard, including Steelix, we went back inside to make sure the building was okay. Steelix obviously couldn’t fit, but that was okay. He didn’t seem to mind waiting outside. “Austin, that was intense!” Nurse Joy said shaking her head. “Usually Steelix don’t get to be that big, but I think he is an exception to that rule. I think I am going to call him Tremor” I said to Nurse Joy and Jenny. “Do you like that name?” I yelled outside. A tail slamming into the ground causing a tremor was answer enough. “Okay you two love birds, take Tremor with you and go enjoy your picnic” Nurse Joy said pushing us both outside. “Oh yeah, I made us a homemade picnic lunch to enjoy with our Pokémon” I said showing her the basket. “Do you have any favorite spots to eat and relax?” I asked Jenny. “I have the perfect spot in mind actually” Jenny said with a smile.
