Avi gripped the edge of his desk as the air around him crackled with uncontrolled energy. It pressed upon him like fire, suffocating and burning, and the Tower was chocked full of it. Avi closed his eyes, trying to gather himself before he went to investigate. Out of the blue, there was a crash coming from his father’s bedroom. Avi ran toward the sound and found his father wheezing on the floor. Blood was gushing out of a wound on his right arm, dyeing his white robe red.
“What happened?” Avi asked as he knelt beside him. He tried to check his father’s wound but his father swatted Avi’s hands.
“It doesn’t matter,” his father said, “you have to escape.” He got up to his feet and pulled Avi into his bedroom.
“You’re wounded! Who did this?”
His father didn’t respond instead he shut the door and activated the barrier crest which was carved into the wood. The wall glowed blue for a second before it dimmed. Then, he took out a small teleportation pendant. It had been specifically made in case of a dire situation that requires them to escape to somewhere far away. His father channeled his energy into the crest, activating it. The space in front of him was bent and twisted into a portal. Avi had no chance to exclaim his protest before his father pushed him into it. But before Avi could fully enter, the door burst open, and darkness poured inside, surging towards them. His father flashed him a smile,
