It knows my name? My age? What is this? The list went on and Kass continued reading.
Wait!? Health? Twenty two…!!! If this is what I think it is…Holy shit I’m almost dead. She sat there staring at the numbers for a minute, trying to process what it all meant. She wasn’t in just some alternate world with scary monsters and dark tunnels, no, this world was something much different.
“Feels like a freaking video game…” she muttered to herself offhandedly, her mind elsewhere. Everything began to feel surreal as she sat there. It was like an out of body experience she always heard about but had never experienced. It was a scary feeling for Kass. She felt like she was trapped inside a dream and unable to wake herself up.
Breathe K. Breathe. She tried to slow her pounding heart that threatened to burst from her chest. All of this was just insane. Keep reading, stay focused.
Wow level 42? I’ve got a ton of stat points to use as well. Looks like it’s just one point per level though. I should probably use them, it might keep me alive. “Hey what should I put these stat points into?”
“It would be wise to choose a class first.”
“I don’t know what any of this really means…” she sighed as she continued to look at the glowing numbers on the page before her.
“You should….gah...ahh..” a new voice cut into Kass’ mind, powerful and hostile, “...KILL. DIE HUMAN WEAKL…— I apologize. Ahem, where were we?”
“Umm...what the hell was that?!?”

“That...would be the demon I have been trapped with for so long...my nemesis really. But do not concern yourself, you must finish, and quickly. Who knows what’s lurking down here, and you need to find sustenance.”
“R...right”
“To answer your question. Each stat pertains to a certain aspect of who you are. Therefore, strength makes you stronger, dexterity for speed and reaction time, intelligence provides mana and manages its regeneration, also reflecting the capacity of the brain to make wise decisions and remember information. There’s endurance, which determines how much stress or strain your body can handle, and then there is fortitude, which makes your body tougher and increases your health. Obviously there is more to each than that, but for now that explanation will have to do.”
“So should I put them all evenly into each stat?”
“You could, yes. But, as I said before, you should first choose a class. Once you have done that you will better understand what to do. ”
“Okay, class first. Now where would that be?” Kass flipped the page and found a lot of information listed in the bright letters.
“Nothing to do with classes on that page, just some type of diary of the last few days.” She glanced over all the information, a hundred questions forming in her head. She decided to ask the two she thought were most important. “It says here that a level milestone was achieved and I was healed because of it. What is a level milestone?” The memory of her legs breaking flashed through her mind again and she shivered, not sure if she really believed any of that really happened.
“A good question. Level milestones only occur every twenty-five levels. But they are very powerful. Each milestone will heal you when reached, and, if you’re lucky, it will award a random bonus. Some of these bonuses are widely sought after and very, very rare.”
“So each time I reach a milestone it will heal me from any injury?”
“Of course. But do not think that it is easy to reach these milestones. There are those that have depended on the healing benefits of a milestone and have died due to haste before ever reaching it...that is most unwise.”
So it did happen. My legs… I knew it. But how is it possible? How is any of this possible K? You’ve seen it all for yourself. Unable to come to terms with all of this new information she frustratingly pushed it aside and asked her next question.
“Okay another question, what does ‘lifelink established’ mean? It mentions that after binding with you.”
“Lifelink? Ah...I see...hmm...most interesting and…yes, very uncommon indeed. Well, It is simple really. It means that your soul is now linked to mine, and I would assume to that of the darkness that is just as much a part of this blade as I. Our life force is now intertwined it seems. Hmm...yes...very unexpected. This is probably why you are still alive young one.”
“So does that mean...if I die...you will die?” Kass reeled a bit, not wanting to believe any more of this crazy stuff.
“Mhm...so it seems.”
“What! Why? I don’t understand.” She waited for an answer but none came. And so she sat there for a moment, unsure of what to do. Her mind flicked from one explanation to the next, searching for something that would prove all of this wrong and wake her up from this insane dream. She found nothing. Finally, she decided the only thing she could do instead of freaking out was continue reading. So she did.
More freaking decisions...I hate decisions.
