Chapter Seven Hospital
Gu Mo stood outside the operating room, his eyes fixed on the bright lights inside. He felt a bit anxious. He never thought he would see her again in such a situation. His phone rang in his pocket, and Gu Mo answered it to hear Mo Cheng's urgent voice on the other end. "Brother, are you okay now?"
"Uh-huh!" He raised his eyes and glanced again in the direction of the operating room, his dark pupils gleaming with a hint of tension and gentleness.
"How dare that old man treat us like this, does he think our family is a pushover?" Mo Cheng said angrily, getting more and more agitated as he spoke. He was so furious that he wished he could blow up the research institute run by that old man. Mo Sai listened quietly, occasionally looking up, until the lights in the operating room had dimmed and his furrowed brow relaxed. He then hung up the phone decisively and walked forward calmly. The director of the hospital came out first, took off his mask, and said respectfully: "Young Master Gu, the young lady inside is fine now. Just rest for a few more days and keep her arm dry."
The nurse behind her transferred her to a senior ward, helped her with the infusion and left. Gu Mo Ze sat on the bedside, staring at her pale face. The whole ward was empty and quiet, Gu Mo Ze could almost hear his own heartbeat. Suddenly, Meng Zhan Yan opened her eyes dazedly, raised her head and met Gu Mo Ze's deep gaze. Gu Mo Ze was taken aback, neither of them spoke a word. Meng Zhan Yan wasn't good at talking anyway, she didn't know what to say either. To her, this man was just a one-night stand stranger, someone unrelated to her whom she habitually ignored.
Compared to her, Gu Mo was unusually complex in his heart. At first, he still felt a little guilty about this woman. Looking at the bloodstain on his pants made him even more complicated. This woman had given him her first time, but after they were done, she asked him for 100,000 yuan with a straight face. He couldn't help but admit that at that time, he was extremely disgusted and resentful towards this woman. Was it going to be 100,000 every time? Would the next time be 1 million? Was she going to keep pestering him like an ATM?
Although 100,000 yuan is nothing to him, he won't be taken advantage of by a woman. Looking at her outfit, she doesn't seem like a prostitute either. He feels somewhat disgusted and coldly tells her to get out. He thought the woman would cling to the car and refuse to leave, but unexpectedly, she got off without fuss, only her eyes revealing a hint of confusion and clarity. After he drove away, he couldn't help but think of those confused yet clear eyes again, how someone so weak could still hold their head high and not show weakness.
My mind was complicated and I felt a little guilty. Before he reacted, my actions had already moved one step ahead of reason, reversing the car back to its original position. Unexpectedly, that woman was no longer there. In the following days, he didn't think about this matter again until today when he met her.
"How is it?" Gu Mo stood beside her, the sunlight passing through the floor-to-ceiling window and shining on his straight body, casting a slight shadow on his face, making it hard for her to see clearly. She only reacted when she heard him speak, asking herself, and replied calmly: "It's okay."
Her face was extremely calm, quietly half-reclining on the bed, and the two of them seemed to be chatting like old friends. He didn't speak up, and she didn't respond either. Gu Mo Ze also found her calm expression somewhat surprising, but the surprise flashed by, and his face returned to its usual expressionless state. His tone was flat: "That's good!" After a pause, he continued, "You'll stay here for a few days! Wait until you're better before being discharged!" His tone was firm and didn't allow for any questioning.
"No need, I'm fine, I think I'll be discharged today."
Gu Mo's expression turned solemn for a moment before he said, "After finishing the IV drip, I'll send you back home. Where do you live?"
"Really?" She looked up at him, stunned for a moment, before refusing, "No need, you go first! I'll head back myself later."
Gu Mo didn't respond to her, turned around and left. Meng Zhen thought he had already left, but unexpectedly, after half a sound, he bought some fruit from a stall and placed it on the bedside table. There was no chair beside the bed, so he could only sit on the edge of the bed, his body straight, holding a pear and using a fruit knife to peel its skin. The action was a bit awkward at first, but after peeling for a while, it became smoother. The thin skin of the pear was surprisingly peeled off in one piece without breaking, and then he handed it over to her.
She took it over, Meng Zhan spoke in a low voice and thanked her. The small mouth bit again. Then there was silence between the two again.
"Hello, Gu Mo Xi." He stretched out his hand and his gaze fell on her body, without leaving immediately.
"Mo Meng said." Continued to gnaw on the pear, looking at the outstretched hand, she didn't plan to stretch her own. She turned her face to look outside the window, her gaze was bleak and desolate, the scar from her forehead to the corner of her eye accentuated the vicissitudes of life.
Gu Mo Su withdrew his hand, looking at her with some surprise. If he wasn't mistaken, he actually saw a sense of weariness on this weak and small woman, as if she had seen through the world like an old man, despite being in the prime of her youth.
It was already noon, and the ward was so quiet that even a needle dropping on the ground could be heard. She knew she wasn't a sociable person and didn't like to talk, while Gu Mozei had an icy face for everyone. It was a fantasy to expect him to chat with someone he didn't know well.
The ward was waiting for her to finish the infusion, and it was already six o'clock in the evening. She looked at the man sitting on the edge of the bed beside her, motionless, just like that for an entire afternoon, expressionless, with a straight back, even if he didn't move, still exuding elegance, making him look pleasing to the eye, and making women flock to him.
When she saw the doctor walk into the ward, he finally stood up with difficulty. After the needle on her hand was removed, he walked over and immediately hugged her into his arms with a familiar movement. Meng Zhan Yan was taken aback by this action, feeling that it had been practiced thousands of times to be so skilled. His chest was broad, and the masculine scent that rushed towards her made her frown, just as she tried to struggle free.
"Don't move." A magnetic voice sounded above his head. Meng Zhen's words stiffened and he didn't move again.
When Gu Mo Yu escorted the person out of the hospital, the sky had already darkened, and the lights on both sides of the street lit up one by one. The entire city was a dazzling array of neon lights, with cars and horses galloping about. He glanced at the dark sky, then looked again at the woman in his arms. His cold face showed no expression, only a faint furrowed brow, revealing his hesitation.
Meng Zhen seemed to see his hesitation, slightly moved away from him, still feeling a bit weak and unable to exert himself, looked at him with a calm gaze: "You go! I'll get back myself." He turned around and was about to leave.
Gu Mei's consciousness hadn't reacted yet, but he had already reached out to grab her wrist. Her hand was as cold as ice, and in this summer, it felt especially striking. Logically speaking, on such a hot day, her body temperature shouldn't be so low. His gaze fell upon her frail figure, and suddenly he said: "Go to my place, I'll get a check for you."
She was taken aback, give him the money? The corner of her mouth curled up in some mockery, but she had to say, she was moved, and that 100,000 was also earned by her own body, what couldn't be taken, "Okay."
"I'll go drive, you wait here."
After he sat in the car, started the engine and drove on the highway, finally stopped outside a high-end apartment in the wealthy district of West Third Ring.
Meng Zhen followed him out of the car and into the elevator, not saying a word. Gu Mo Si glanced at her repeatedly, this woman was different from all the women he had met before, without their heavy makeup, she was clean and refreshing, unlike the first time they met when she looked worn out. Everything seemed to be reflected in her eyes, yet there was no temperature to speak of, colder than him. Her expression didn't change at all.
