A new day, a new school, a new life. That's what awaits him, Ryota Mitarai, the Ultimate Animator, chosen to attend the prestigious Hope's Peak Academy. He stood outside of the school now, his eyes scaling the imposing building where he would spend the next few years of his life. Before entering, he took some time to think about his situation. He had been animating for years. Anime had been one of the most enjoyable and strengthening components of his childhood, and now he was eager to help others feel the same way he did by creating the best animations he could. That is what he came to Hope's Peak to do. He was now beaming, ready to embark on this new chapter in his life, he had a smile of newfound hope on his face as he entered the school.
As he walked through the entryway of the school, he was unsurprised to find that he was the first one there. He arrived an hour early to see if he could explore the school some and hopefully find out just how high quality their animation supplies were. As he wandered the halls, he couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement about his future. The best high school in the nation, filled with students as equally talented and dedicated as he was. One particur room managed to catch his eye. The AV room.
"Oh, maybe they have some anime, I'm sure some former students must have made some kind of animation." he thought.
As he entered the AV room, he was amazed at the level of technology they had. There were devices to py all kinds of music, movies, games, and other ones he didn't even recognize. After looking around for some type of media to watch, he discovered a DVD beled "Orientation Animation". The prospect of any kind of animation, especially one Hope's Peak made for his orientation excited him. Despite thinking that the disc was meant to be watched when the rest of his css arrived, he couldn't help but feel compelled to preview it himself first.
"I'm the Ultimate Animator, I should watch it to see if it fits my standards. The other students would probably appreciate my effort to make sure they only watch the best versions of anime." he said to himself, reassuringly.
He inserted the DVD into a pyer and waited for it to start.
As the screen came to life, Ryota was shocked to see nothing but a still image of a teddy bear holding a clock with an hour long count down on it. After a few seconds, suddenly snapped out of his fit and started chuckling a bit.
"Heh, I get it. A student must have created an upgraded version of a DVD. Maybe it can read the computers time and run a different scene depending on it? Well, guess that's what I get for trying to watch it early...." He said quietly to himself.
After staying for a bit and watching the clock stay counting down, tight in the grasp of that odd looking bck and white teddy bear, Ryota decided that some other students must have arrived by now, and that he should probably go meet them.
As he went to exit the AV room, he was surprised to find that the door was locked.
"Huh?" he excimed. He attempted to rattle the doorknob some, in case the door was stuck. After this failed, he began to panic slightly and started pacing around the room.
"Maybe this is the orientation? All of the students get to watch something reted to their Ultimate Talent? But then why am I the only one in the AV room? Are the others in different rooms?" He attempted to rationalize the situation, but this only led to more specution and uncertainty.
Ultimately, he decided to wait until the timer was up, and then call for help if no one showed up.
A long and anxious hour passes
He watched as the timer hit zero and the teddy bear's face snapped into a smile. The image of the bear slowly faded out and, sure enough, a video began to py.
"Welcome, Hope's Peak Academy Student: Ryota Mitarai!" The voice narrating over the now empty screen seemed sickeningly high pitched. Ryota was appalled at the apparent ck of production that had gone into this video.
"If you're watching this video you were selected to participate in an exciting new experimental learning opportunity!"
A new learning opportunity? Now he was intrigued, what could he have been selected for? What made him more worthy than the other Hope's Peak Students? he hadn't even become part of the school yet.
The voice continued "We have carefully analyzed the members of the 77th and 78th csses and determined that you met our personal criteria! Congratutions! Please meet in the Gymnasium!" A map of the school popped up on screen. "See you there!" The voice had ceased.
Ryota's head was swirling at this point. "The 77th and 78th css? How? The 78th css hasn't even been scouted yet. What criteria are they talking about?"
Ryota pulled out his phone to see if he could call the school to see what was going on, however his phone appeared to be dead.
"What?! I just charged it this morning! How is it dead already?!" He was panicking and couldn't access any contacts or anime to calm him down. He decided to just head out to the gym to see what was going on and if he could just get this over with.
After briefly consulting the school map, he headed out to the entrance of the gym, again, not seeing anyone else on the way there, despite the fact that he was pretty sure it was well past the time they were all supposed to get here.
As he was walking through the halls, he couldn't shake a sense of Deja Vu, like he had already been though these halls many times. At the same time, however, things seemed different, like some of the posters were new or the air was staler. He pushed past these minor issues however, believing them to be nothing but products of his anxiety. Which, in turn, made it worse.
Once he reached the gym doors, he wanted nothing more than for the staff to be waiting inside to tell him it was all just a joke, and that everything was ok. But he would soon learn that you don't always get what you want.
Or deserve...
