No One Hears Your Cry

Chapter Six: No One Hears Your Cry

Once Iron finally fell silent, Tayren began his attempt to enter the Soul’s Mirror.

"I think the better name is… the Void of the Soul. Focus!"

He failed again. But he kept trying, tirelessly. And then—on the thirty-fifth attempt, after a full hour—he finally succeeded in entering the Void of his soul.

  "Here I am..."

Darkness… with a faint light. Shards of a shattered mirror scattered across the horizon. Then, after a few moments, his eyes adjusted to the scene.

At that moment, a message lit up in his mind:

[You have awakened your first Core.]

  "Very good."

Any being can awaken up to seven cores. Each core supports a step on one of the two known paths: Ascension or Corruption… But in Tayren’s case, it was Dissolution, the name he gave his unique, personal path.

  He sneered.

"I’m truly a living legend. Yes, better than all those peasants. I even have my own path!"

  Then he paused, remembering something.

"Ahem… technically, the creatures of this terrifying pce follow it too."

  He shrugged, indifferent.

"Anyway… now I can do things away from Iron’s eyes. And by the way… I didn’t lie to him. There are no Void Whispers here."

  "Doesn’t matter now."

  He focused. The status:

  ---

  Name: Tayren

  True Name: [Unknown]

  Origin: [Born of the Void]

  Css: [Silent Birth]

  Void Heart: [1/7]

  ---

  Origin Description:

You were born of the Void.

No one heard—or will ever hear—your cry.

  No one shares your suffering.

Only the Void, with its coldness, silently holds you.

It is the only one that heard you.

  That is your soce.

The Void embraces you… as if you never existed.

  ---

  Traits:

  [Born of the Void]

  [Void Farmer]

  Description: ..........

  ---

  Tayren ughed bitterly.

"Oh, what a ridiculous name. Who comes up with this stuff? Probably me… or my inner desire… or something else entirely.

Anyway, this information belongs to me alone."

He looked around the spherical space, with dark walls and a floor saturated with mysterious Void energy.

"So… I’ve named it the Void Mirror."

  He continued mockingly:

"Most humans have souls that hold a Soul Mirror…

  But me? I’m… different."

Where the typical Soul Mirror looked like a pure, spherical crystal chamber… what he possessed was nothing like that.

Then he opened the trait log, and his smile turned wicked as he read one of the descriptions.

  He whispered with delight:

"Activation chant: Die, you idiotic bastard."

  His grin grew demonic.

"Well then… those are the traits.

Now… let’s look into something that might change my life forever."

He focused deeply on the word: Weakness.

  ---

Fw: [No one heard—or will ever hear—your suffering]

  Fw Description:

A rift… columns of skulls, mouths open in a silent scream.

But silence settled and ruled over the sea of lost darkness.

The skulls’ eyes widened across the ground.

  No one moved in pain.

  No one cried.

  No one screamed.

  The pain was endless.

And you… were born of its silence.

  Effect:

You cannot express pain or compin about it.

  ---

  Tayren suddenly froze.

Memories of his two younger siblings—who were assumed dead—rushed in. And his older brother, the officer, who had tried to evacuate and protect them until he perished.

He should’ve cried… or struck the ground.

But instead, a burning pain in his eyes overwhelmed the sadness.

When he tried to punch the ground in anguish, his leg wouldn’t move.

When he opened his mouth to scream… no sound came out.

He writhed for five minutes on the ground, in voiceless agony…

  Then stilled.

  Finally… everything stopped.

  His face turned pale.

  "Damn this..."

  But then something clicked.

  "Wait a minute… I said it.

So… direct expression of suffering is forbidden.

  But mocking it… is allowed."

  Tayren breathed slowly.

  "Bad… but manageable."

He then opened the log of his new abilities.

  ---

First Ability: [Call of the Void]

  Description:

The Void responds and forms itself according to your intent.

You can summon the Void from your Soul’s Void.

  ---

  He smiled as he muttered:

  "Magnificent."

He stared for a long while.

"Hmm… according to my intent, huh?"

  ---

  If you had this ability...

  What would you do? :]
