Prelude - Death of Marlie

  In an endless darkness, a lone person could be seen, seemingly floating in the middle of the Void - if there even was something like the concept of ‘middle’ in this place.

  The woman’s eyes fluttered open, and immediately, her focus snapped to attention with a disgruntling speed. Before she could take in the world around her properly, however, a daze took hold of her, and her eyes slowly closed, and she fell asleep.

  But a part of her remained awake.

  The deepest part of her subconscious, where all her greatest desires and ambitions dwelled, remained. Her limp body dissolved around that one, singular point, leaving nothing but a ball of energy seamingly encompassing all color.

  Marlie, all she had been for all her twenty two years of life, died. What was left was a clean slate, a new beginning.

  In the Void before her, a new figure unveiled itself. Perhaps it had always been there, Marlie didn’t know - though she was, rather obviously, not exactly in any mind to be able to process such things at the moment...

  In front of the newborn singularity, was a grand, pale face, though its likeness was more similar to something like a mask rather than something organic. It was difficult to discern its size, for there was no longer any physical thing to compare it to - aka. Marlie’s old body, (resting in pieces) - so all one could tell was that it was huge. Any measure of size would fall short of it.

  The 'mask' spoke, though its lips didn’t move in the slightest.

  {WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT TO YOU?}

  The words and their intent hit the sphere like a bolt of lightning straight from the Universes core, but the singularity knew it could not make this entity wait. To do so was sacriledge.

  ‘I… I want to... know,' It said. 'I… I want to know. Tell- t-tell me, please, tell me secrets, tell me history! What... what has happened to me? I... want to know where I am. What? Who… Who am I? I-’

  The singularity quivered - clearly, all of its soul had not yet passed on. This did not anger the mysterious entity, for this was as intended.

  Cutting the newborn off, it continued.

  {IN THE FACE OF A GREAT FOE, WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT TO YOU? OVERWHELMING POWER, THAT CAN TOPPLE PLANETS? ARCANE SUPERIORITY, THAT CAN MANGLE YOUR FOE IN A THOUSAND UNKNOWN WAYS? OR IS IT KNOWLEDGE, SO YOU CAN KNOW YOUR FOE AND CHANGE WHAT CANNOT BE SEEN?}

  The tiny sphere once again shook at the force of the being’s words, but thought to itself, with its limited capacity. It did not have much of a 'self', but it still, somehow, had a remarkably clear answer to the being's question. Before it could speak it's answer, however, a greyish white mist shot out from the Masked One and into the singularity, taking the answer itself, taking the will behind it.

  The will, now suspended in the 'space' in front of the sphere, was a clear, blue mist, though entirely lesser than the Masked being's greyish white. The will pulsed, and its desicion was known.

  ‘Knowledge… Give me... Give me knowledge!’

  The greyish white mask dissapeared, and with it, the singularity that was Marlie, leaving only the empty Void behind.
