'Eughhff,' With a final heave and a warcry that sounded much like that boy that called out for this mother, Liza plopped down on the floor of the Library hall with nothing but lint and flies fueling her movement.
She didn't actually have to lie down on the floor to recouperate, but it was a symbolic gesture symbolizing how entirely drained she felt. She checked her Stamina stat, and she swore it was in the negatives.
She didn't even need to know what asthma was to know she was probably cursed with it from not being a good enough Librarian in a former life, or something.
Staring at the ceiling, Liza grew still.
That was a Visitor. He'd come to her library, her library, and read a book! And she'd even been able to talk to them!
If she'd had a face, there would be a massive grin on it.
Her only regret was that she'd been severely unprepared.
For one thing, she only had a single book, and while he seemed to enjoy it when the book was suffusing information into this mind, judging from the man's confused exclamation and literal fleeing after the fact, the books content wasn't anything grand. It only had a single page, so Liza understood the confusion.
'Beyond that, look at the place. It's supposed to be a place conductive to learning, godswallops! It looks like a torture room, and I don't even know what torture is! GAH!'
Annoyed, the little one thought of what to do. She needed a real, solid plan, a golden course of action that would bring her to the very top of librarianship! What librarian didn't have a schedule!?
And the answer was blatabtly obvious; She needed to level up, even if only to be able to talk to her guests more.
But how? She hadn't leveled up in all the few hours she'd been alive! Actually, that wasn't very shocking. One might even call it expected. But Liza wouldn't hold herself to a lower standard, even if she was only level one! Her skills demanded it! Her soul demanded it!
Summoning her blue text box, she determinedly started looking for clues, when she was pleasently surprized when she saw her skill Research 1 had become Research 2! And it had only taken a night of mild torture outside the Hall to get there!
'Oh, nards.'
??~??~??
With unparallelled focus, Liza sped through the tunnel at max speed until she felt the last of her will approaching what she'd come to refer to as the final drop. Before she was fully out of energy, she did a quick turn and hastily returned to the room.
She'd gone through many such rounds by now, for she didn't even know how long, yet even so, the number on the screen was still zero.
No matter what she'd tried thus far, whether it be flapping her book body around like some rabid duckling or going into deep meditation to try to force the room itself to move, nothing had worked. Only after her most reacent escapade of zooming around outside the magica-rich atmosphere of the Library Hall with only her mind did she finally raise a single attribute, though that wasn't Movement, to her dismay.
It was Perception, of all things. In a way, it did make sense, she supposed. When outside the safety of her home, she always had her figurative eyes wide open, constantly scanning the surroundings for dangers.
Liza hadn't actually seen anyone other than the Visitor since she spawned, but it was never a bad idea to prepare for the worst, she thought.
The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Even so, her Perception had only increased by three points, raising it from ten points to thirteen. The change wasn't really noticable, at least as far as Liza could tell. The wall of the tunnel and the details of the foliage were perhaps a bit more detailed, but that was all.
Still, she wasn't one to give up so easily. She moved on to skills.
The skill that was the easiest for her to use was Research, and, using it on everything in the viscinity on her journeys in and out of the room, she had, after longer than she preferred, leveled it up to level three. Next, she decided to focus on Book Creation.
If she was to be the proprietor of books in this place, then she obviously needed books to 'proptiate'!
Mimicking how the man had sat down in the chair to read, Liza pretended to sit down and focused on the tabletop. For the next several days, she insessantly, almost obsessively created book after book filled with all the knowledge she'd collected. The titles of the books ranged from, 'Air Quality within the Intersection between The First and Second Strata', 'Structural Integrity of the Deep Dirt' and 'The Felitos Plant: General Use'. As she'd hoped, the higher her Research skill was, the more she could glean from the subjects of her research! The skill, now being at level 3, meant that the knowledge distilled from, for example, the Felitos plants now also included their general use, though there was still nothing to glean of it's history. It wasn't that she expected it to be anything exciting or anything, but she wanted to know! She wanted, no, would, know EVERYTHING!!
She snickered, villainously.
Apparently, the plant was commonly used to boost Perception for a short duration by mixing it with boiling water in a commonly enjoyed tincture called 'tea'! She immediately placed gathering a batch to her to-do list, instantly determining that her library would have the best tea in the world.
Conveniently, in her attempt to level up Book Creation and Research, Knowledge Distillation and Book Suffution had gone up by three each, causing a Level Up screen to pop up! In the end, it had taken leveling up the different skills a total number of ten times before the screen showed up, though when it initially did, she kept going until all skills were leveled up thrice before finally turning her attention to the screen.
[You have leveled up!]
[You are now level 2]
[Choose three attributes to increase]
[Attribute points remaining: 10]
Her immediate reflex was to dump them all into Movement, but in the end decided against it... only after trying and failing, that is. Apparently, only five points could be put into a single attribute, the other two attributes getting three and two respectively.
In the end, she put five points into Movement, three into Power and two into Perception.
She wanted to be able to move more, damnit! Also, while she wasn't entirely sure what the Power attribute actually did, just going off of the name alone, she figured it was something she was going to need.
After all, if that Visitor had had bad intentions, there was literally nothing in her skillset that let her fight back.
Directly, anyway.
In a pinch, Liza wondered if the Guidance skill would come in handy. After all, guiding someone was all about putting them on a certain trajectory, right? So, in theory, couldn't she just guide them away if push came to shove?
She certainly hoped so...
She locked in her choice, ready for the wonderful power-up to hit her like a magical truck - whatever that was - but was greatly dissapointed when she only felt something closer to a trickle turning into a slightly more intence trickle rather than the breaking of a dam.
Oh well.
She dropped her mental victory pose, and took stock of her abilities.
Essentially, she immediately tried everything she could to move around.
How could she not!? She was a room! Rooms were meant to fly!
At least, she was pretty sure...
'BAH! Whatever!'
Utilizing her, admittadly pittiful, new strength, her utmost focus, and all the will in the tank, Liza willed herself to move. In any way, any direction. It didn't matter how far, she willed the room to move.
When her reserves were depleted, she waited a few minutes for her stamina to increase a bit before exitedly taking a peak out the door. Although she'd felt nothing from where she hovered inside the room, she was sure something was happening! She could feel it in her soul. Literally! Her sould was the Library, after all, and she could sense her location having shifted slightly!
And lo!
She had moved, exactly three centimeters!
'Oh, come on!?'
