Chapter 2: The Mark of Awakening

Cael's body shook as the cold floor touched his skin. His mind was still blurry, full of confusion and broken memories.

Dr. Saren came close with a small metal box. She said, "Put your finger here."

Cael did as she said. The box made a soft sound, then changed into a smooth, tight suit that fit him like it was made just for him but the chest was left open because of unknown reason.

“Perfect fit,” Dr. Saren said, looking at the glowing mark on his chest. Her voice sounded worried.

“You need to rest,” she said, but Cael felt something was wrong.

His thoughts raced. A hundred years? Monsters? Rifts? It didn’t feel real.

His last memory was of laughing with his mother while she baked a cake. His sister was running around the kitchen. Everything was warm and happy.

Now… everything was Silence, Darkness and Loneliness.

Dr. Saren guided him to a small medical room. As they moved through the crumbling facility , Cael saw:

  ?Broken machines covered in vines

?Empty glass tanks, like the one he woke up in

?Old half teared posters that said: “Project SIN: Save Humanity for the Next Century”

He lay down on the bed, tired. His body felt weak, drained by the confusion and the strange new environment. But it was a broken mirror in front of him that stopped him cold.

The symbol on his chest was still glowing more brighter than before—lines and circles, like old writing.

He touched it. It felt warm, like it was alive.

  “What is this?” he asked.

Dr. Saren looked scared. Her hands shook as she looked at a screen on her wrist.

“I thought it was gone,” she whispered. “You were never supposed to wake up.”

She sat down and said, “No other person had this symbol. Only you.”

She looked serious now. “It showed up when you went into the coma. The scientists didn’t study it… because it was alive. And linked to the rifts.”

She paused. “Your father’s journal holds the answers, but... important parts of it are missing..”

Cael remembered something—his father’s voice: “You are the future, my son.”

Later that night, when Dr. Saren was asleep, Cael walked through the empty halls.

His feet touched the cold floor. His mind was full of questions.

What was the truth behind his awakening? What was his father’s legacy?

In a big room, he saw a statue of a hero with a glowing sword, standing over a broken rift.

But what caught Cael’s attention were the words at the base of the statue:

"From the Children of Sin, Heroes Will Rise."

Cael touched the words. A click sounded. The ground behind the statue began to shift, revealing a hidden door.

Inside was a room his father’s journals were scattered across a table and many books on rift written by an unknown person were stacked in the bookshelf. One in particular caught his attention. The title of that journal that caught his attention was "For cale"

  He opened it.

“If you are reading this, it means we failed.”

“The rifts were not natural. We made them.”

“Cael… forgive us. Find the truth. And when the time comes… Awaken.”

Only three lines were written , the rest torn away.

Suddenly, a loud roar shook the lab.

  Red lights turned on.

A voice said, “Defense system starting. Go to the bunker.”

Cael heard Dr. Saren screamed from distance., “THE RIFT IS OPENING!”

The symbol on his chest lit up bright and hot. It felt like it was calling him.

  And then—

  Everything went black.
