Chapter 39: Reciming Freedom
"You have no right to touch her!" The deep, furious voice exploded in the room like thunder. The head of the Tang family’s expression was icy, his eyes filled with bone-chilling coldness. He spped Wang Suiyun’s chest with a backhand, sending him flying like a kite with its string cut, crashing violently against the wall. A mouthful of blood sprayed from Wang Suiyun’s mouth.
"If it weren't for the sake of the Sea City Wang family and the Medicine King Valley, you'd already be dead," the head of the Tang family’s commanding voice echoed in the room.
Wang Suiyun clutched his chest, panting desperately, his face as white as a sheet, his eyes fshing with both fear and hatred. He opened his mouth to speak, but was struck mute by the cold, intimidating gaze of the Tang family head.
Sanbao stood there, dumbfounded, her chest heaving. The man who had appeared out of nowhere exuded an undeniable aura of authority and strength. But… why did she feel so familiar with him?
"Take this," the man said as he handed Sanbao a pill. Sanbao instinctively took it, without thinking twice, and swallowed it. As the pill entered her stomach, a warm sensation spread quickly through her limbs. Slowly, Sanbao began to regain strength, and her mind cleared.
"Who are you?" Sanbao stared at him, confusion and questions swirling in her mind, though she couldn't understand why she felt such trust in him.
The Tang family head didn’t answer immediately, instead, he looked around, curiously examining the vil.
"What is all this?" He walked to the bed, gently pressing on the soft mattress, his face showing a hint of confusion. "And this headboard—copper-pted? These furnishings, what kind of style is this? Not even the kingdoms in the Western Continent have furniture or daily-use items like this."
Sanbao looked at the Tang family head, feeling an increasing sense of familiarity. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t remember who he was. She instinctively lifted her right hand, staring at the wooden bracelet on her wrist that was glowing faintly, her brow furrowing in confusion.
"Could you help me break this bracelet?" Sanbao asked absentmindedly, without even knowing why she asked.
The Tang family head gnced at the bracelet, his expression shifting slightly. He extended his fingers and lightly brushed over the bracelet, feeling its spiritual energy. His expression grew serious.
"This is a magic item designed to suppress the wearer’s spiritual power and interfere with their mind." He said in a low voice, then made a hand gesture and pressed the bracelet.
"Crack!" The wooden bracelet snapped, and spiritual power suddenly surged from Sanbao’s dantian, spreading through her limbs. Her memories flooded back to her mind like a rushing tide.
Sanbao felt as if her mind had exploded with a thunderous roar, and everything went bck.
When she woke up again, it was the next morning. Sanbao opened her eyes to find the man who had saved her sitting cross-legged by the bed, surrounded by swirling spiritual energy, like a pine tree in the dawn light—strong and steady.
"You’re awake," the man's voice was cool, but there was a hint of concern.
Sanbao rubbed her eyes, and when she looked at him more clearly, she finally recognized him.
"Tang Mingli!" Sanbao sat up suddenly, her eyes filled with surprise and confusion.
"I remember everything now... I was tricked by their Wang family," Sanbao said bitterly, and then proceeded to recount in detail how she and Wu Yuyu, along with Xiao Lan, had escaped from the Medicine King Valley, entered the secret passage, and fainted in the inn.
"Xiao Cui must be involved," Tang Mingli said thoughtfully.
"Yes," Sanbao gritted her teeth, "Where’s Wang Suiyun? What’s his retionship with Wang Suiyun?"
"Wang Suiyun is Wang Suiyun’s younger brother, and the girl you mentioned, Xiao Cui, is probably Wang Suiyue. They are half-siblings from the same father."
Sanbao was stunned, slowly piecing everything together. "So... they set up a trap to harm me. What about Wang Suiyun? Is he involved too? And how did you become the head of the Tang family?"
Tang Mingli smiled faintly. "You’re asking too many questions all at once. I don’t even know where to start answering." He gnced around at the modern furnishings with curiosity. "By the way, the décor of this house is quite strange. Such a soft bed—how comfortable is it to sleep on?"
Sanbao's lips twitched, mentally sighing. "If you don’t want to answer, fine, but don’t change the topic. Do you want me to tell you that the décor here is from my previous world?"
Tang Mingli suddenly looked at Sanbao with a thoughtful expression, then suddenly said, "Everything in this house is reted to your previous world, isn’t it?"
Sanbao froze, her eyes widening in arm. She suddenly realized that Tang Mingli was a spiritual ability user and could read her thoughts. Her heart tightened.
"Don’t worry," Tang Mingli smiled gently, taking out a pendant and handing it to her. "Your secret is safe with me. This is the first magic item I created after succeeding as the head of the family. I originally intended to give it to you."
Sanbao took the pendant, and saw that it was a pure gold butterfly. The wings, thin as gossamer, glowed softly in the morning light. The intricate engravings on the wings spiraled like flower petals, making the pendant extremely exquisite.
The butterfly’s body was slender and elegant, with a brilliant heart-shaped ruby embedded at its center. In the light, the ruby flickered like a faint fme, and spiritual patterns appeared within it, like flowing veins of fire, giving the pendant a sense of life.
The entire pendant resembled a butterfly spirit about to take flight, exuding both elegance and nobility, with a touch of softness and serenity. The pendant was attached to a delicate gold chain, cool to the touch. When worn close to the chest, it gave off a sense of peace.
As soon as Sanbao wore the pendant, she felt a warm energy spread from her chest, as though an invisible shield had quietly surrounded her, giving her a sense of safety that was hard to describe.
"This is a defense magic item. It can protect you from a fatal attack, and it can interfere with the abilities of spiritual power users, preventing them from reading your thoughts. Once you wear this, I can no longer read your mind," Tang Mingli expined.
Sanbao felt a warm wave of gratitude in her heart. "Thank you so much," she said earnestly.
Tang Mingli smiled faintly. "Your secrets can wait until you're ready to tell me."
Sanbao nodded. "What do we do now?"
Tang Mingli gnced around, a cold light fshing in his eyes. "Come with me. Everything in this vil is connected to your previous world, and it cannot be discovered by others. It must be destroyed."
"What about Wang Suiyun?" Sanbao frowned.
"He ran off while you were unconscious," Tang Mingli answered indifferently.
