Chapter 37: Truth and Lies
“You’re awake?” A soft and deep voice rang out.
Sanbao turned toward the voice and saw a handsome young man looking at her, a warm smile on his face.
“You... Who are you?” Sanbao furrowed her brows, a sense of unfamiliarity and unease welling up in her chest.
The man smiled slightly, walking to the bedside and gently taking her hand. His voice was soft as he said, “I’m Wang Suiyun, your boyfriend.”
“Boyfriend?” Sanbao tried to recall something, but all she received in return was a sharp pain in her head.
Wang Suiyun sighed lightly, a trace of helplessness in his eyes. “Looks like you really don’t remember anything...”
He softened his tone, his voice deep and magnetic. “Your name is Sanbao. You graduated from Jinling Medical University. That day, you went for an interview at the First Hospital, but you didn’t get the job. You were really down, walking absentmindedly, and didn’t see the car when you crossed the road.”
Wang Suiyun continued, “I had just finished visiting a friend at the hospital and was driving out of the garage when I accidentally hit you. I saw you lying on the ground and rushed out of the car to check. I saw that you had injured your leg, so I quickly took you to the nearby hospital.”
He paused for a moment, guilt flickering in his expression. “The doctors said your leg was broken, so I paid all the medical bills. I visited you often, kept you company, and chatted with you. You stayed in the hospital for several months, and as time passed, we grew closer. After your leg healed, we had developed feelings for each other.”
Sanbao lowered her gaze, her mind in disarray. Her memories were like a hazy fog, impossible to grasp.
“So, what happened next?” she asked instinctively.
Wang Suiyun smiled, his gaze filled with nostalgia. “Later, on the day you were discharged from the hospital, I drove to pick you up. I had 999 roses in the trunk, arranged to spell ‘Love Sanbao’.”
“When you opened the trunk and saw the flowers, you were so touched you started crying, and you agreed to be my girlfriend,” Wang Suiyun said, his eyes soft as he gently stroked Sanbao’s hand.
Sanbao stared at him bnkly. “But I don’t remember any of this.”
Wang Suiyun gently gripped her hand, his voice tinged with tenderness. “Do you really not remember anything?”
Sanbao jerked her hand away, as though struck by electricity. She tried to recall everything Wang Suiyun had said, but the pain in her head grew fiercer, as if thousands of steel needles were piercing her skull. Her face turned pale, her brows furrowed, and she couldn’t help but clutch her head in agony, bowing it down in pain.
Wang Suiyun hurriedly reached out to support her, his voice full of concern. “Don’t force yourself. Take your time. There’s no need to rush.”
Sanbao suddenly pushed him away, taking a deep breath to calm herself. She asked in a low voice, “How long... have we been together?”
Wang Suiyun gently brushed her hair, his voice soft. “We’ve been together for several years now. During this year’s Spring Festival, I took you on a vacation to the seaside. While we were surfing, a huge wave suddenly came and swept you into the sea.”
His voice grew hoarse, a hint of pain fshing in his eyes. “I fought desperately to save you, dragging you back to shore. We rushed you to the hospital, and the doctors said you might never wake up due to ck of oxygen. They advised me to give up, but I refused and insisted that they continue trying to save you.”
Sanbao stared at him, a strange chill creeping up her spine. “Then what happened?”
Wang Suiyun sighed, gently stroking her hand. “Many days passed, and the doctors had already given up, but I stayed by your bedside. Finally, one day, you miraculously woke up, but you had lost all your memories.”
He held her hand gently, his voice full of affection. “The doctors said your memory might never come back, and I was really scared. But I didn’t want to force you. I was afraid you couldn’t bear it. So, even though you’ve forgotten everything, I’ve stayed by your side.”
Sanbao hesitated, pulling her hand away. “I’m sorry, but I really don’t remember anything.”
Wang Suiyun froze for a moment, then smiled gently. “It’s okay. We have all the time in the world. It’s natural for you to feel distant because of your memory loss. When your memory returns, you’ll remember everything between us. I’ll stay by your side, waiting for you to fall in love with me again.”
Sanbao felt lost, her thoughts in disarray. She could only nod bnkly.
Wang Suiyun gently stroked her hair, his gaze filled with deep affection. “Promise me, don’t ever leave me. Stay by my side, okay?”
Sanbao was silent for a moment, still filled with doubt. But for some reason, when she met his gaze full of affection, she couldn’t help but nod in agreement.
