XLVIII – Communication with the Elves

"The Miss Priestess is truly incredible. To advance from [Poison Resistance] to [Poison Immunity] in an instant… This humble servant can only yield before you" Ma Mian muttered, wiping the sweat from his forehead.

As a mid-rank warrior of the beastkin race, he had once traveled great distances to obtain various resistances. And without a doubt, the most terrifying experience was facing a juvenile venomous dragon.

Any creature bearing the title of [Dragon] possessed a high-ranking bloodline. It was said that dragons originally did not belong to the beastkin race, but for unknown reasons, they eventually became cssified within it.

Dragons were few in number, but each one represented the pinnacle of power within the race, capable of rivaling the world's five major races.

The exception was the venomous dragons. These creatures exuded lethal toxins from their entire bodies, affecting anyone who approached them, something even they themselves couldn't control.

Because of this, venomous dragons held a very low status within beastkin society. Even so, few dared to provoke them. However, there were always those who sought to acquire poison resistance and braved the risk, Ma Mian was one of them.

Back then, at level 60, he had assumed that defeating a level 40 venomous dragon would be an easy task. However, he ended up poisoned and bedridden for six months. At the very least, his suffering hadn’t been in vain, as he had acquired [High Poison Resistance], allowing him to endure most poisons.

He had always believed that effort and reward went hand in hand.

  Until now.

Watching Ye Lan obtain [Poison Immunity] just by being exposed to a low-level poison, Ma Mian's perception of the world finally colpsed.

The beastkin race, in its entirety, had fewer than a hundred individuals with [Immunity] abilities, and all of them were powerful warriors at level 100 or higher. Each had obtained those abilities after overcoming countless dangers… but the priestess… she… she… Better not say anything. Just thinking about it made Ma Mian want to cry.

"Miss Priestess, now that you possess [Poison Immunity], there’s nothing to worry about. Let’s continue our journey" Ma Mian said, preparing to move on.

However, Ye Lan remained motionless, showing no intention of leaving.

  "Miss Priestess? Is something wrong?"

"Is there any way to help these people? I can’t just ignore them when I see them writhing in pain on the ground" Ye Lan covered her face with her hand, unable to take a single step.

After all, she had been human. Seeing so many people colpse around her made her conscience, that part of her that still felt human, stop her from simply turning her back and walking away.

"Save them? Why? Humans aren’t worth it!" Ma Mian and Niu Tou looked at her in confusion.

Ye Lan puffed up her cheeks and, with childish stubbornness, plopped down on the ground. "I don’t care! I won’t move until this is resolved! Or do you pn to tie me up and drag me away by force?"

Cold sweat dripped down Niu Tou and Ma Mian’s foreheads. Tie up the priestess? Not a chance. If they tried, they would undoubtedly be executed the moment they returned.

"Miss Priestess, really, we can’t! Look at us! Do we look like ducks that have learned healing magic or medicine?" Ma Mian excimed helplessly.

They were warriors of the beastkin race, how could they possibly know healing magic?

"Is there really no way?" Ye Lan looked at them in disbelief. Clicking his tongue, Ma Mian took a few steps back. "There is a way! We can’t do it, but the elves have mastered all kinds of magic. If we go to their territory and ask for help, they’re bound to have a solution"

"You’re a damn genius! I don’t even know what kind of poison this is, but by the time we go there and come back, they’ll all be dead. Let’s use communication magic!" As she spoke, an idea struck Ye Lan, and she snapped her fingers.

Communication magic, surely even beastkin warriors would know how to use it, right?

She cast an expectant gaze at Niu Tou and Ma Mian. The two instinctively swallowed hard.

"Do you know how to use it?"

  "Yes, yes! But…"

  "But what?"

"The elven territory is quite far… And we might not have enough magic…"

  "Then push yourselves!"

  "Yes!"

  …………………

  Ten minutes ter.

In the middle of the street, Niu Tou and Ma Mian clung to each other, their faces completely flushed. The scene was both awkward and ridiculous.

Ye Lan covered her face with both hands and muttered in embarrassment". What are you two doing? Pretending to be a couple or what?"

Ma Mian, torn between ughter and frustration, replied. "We have no choice! Our magic isn’t enough. By staying in contact like this, we can generate an extra 50 magic points… Ah! Old Niu, your horn is stabbing me!"

"Old Ma! You’re too close! Your horse head is massive!"

Watching them squirm uncomfortably, Ye Lan felt a pang of guilt creeping in.

Before them, a shimmering screen began to materialize, like a television with bad reception, distorted lines flickering as an image struggled to form.

"Come on, keep going! It’s almost there!" Seeing their progress, Ye Lan shoved her guilt aside and cheered them on enthusiastically.

"I can’t take this anymore… Old Niu, your horn...!"

"Old Ma, your head is wider than my whole body, and you still dare compin about my horn!"

Finally, thanks to their combined efforts, the distorted lines on the screen vanished, and the image became clear.

But to everyone’s surprise, instead of an elf, a horse-shaped beastkin appeared.

The moment Ma Mian saw her, he blurted out in shock. "Wife?"

"Husband? What the hell?! So this is what you’re into?!" the horse beastkin on the screen excimed, equally stunned.

"No, it’s not what you think! Let me expin!" Ma Mian was on the verge of tears, but in his current state, he couldn’t disconnect the call.

The horse beastkin on the screen shot him a look of pure disdain before turning away, her parting words ced with disappointment. "I never imagined you were like this. What a disgrace!"

Ma Mian’s face twisted in utter humiliation.

Beside him, Niu Tou patted his shoulder in sympathy. "Bah, it’s not that bad. Don’t let it get to you~"

"Like hell it’s not! You don’t have a wife, of course, you wouldn’t care!" Ma Mian was practically in tears from frustration. If looks could kill, Niu Tou would have been reduced to dust on the spot, level 200 or not.

Meanwhile, the screen now dispyed the interior of an elegantly decorated room. After the horse woman stormed off, a beautiful elf stepped into view.

"Are you from the beastkin race? How can I help you?" the elf asked politely, her tone as professional as a flight attendant on a human airline.

"I need to speak with Lian or Lin. Can you make it quick?" Ye Lan responded immediately.

The elf on the other side of the screen visibly stiffened. Ever since she had taken this position as a communications operator, no one had ever requested to speak directly with the First Princess and her personal guard.

"Princess Lian and the guard Rin, correct? Both hold a high status. May I ask for your identity?" the elf inquired cautiously.

Even if the caller was from the beastkin race, not just anyone could demand an audience with elven royalty without a valid reason.

Ye Lan hesitated briefly before speaking, and the words that left her mouth nearly sent the elf into shock.

  "The beastkin Priestess, Ye Lan"
