31-Tatsumi- A New Day

In terms of talent, he was not as good as Charlene. But what made him special was that he had a strong connection to a certain pce where the deceased resided.

However, his current body and spiritual development limited that capability. Therefore, Tatsumi could only receive partial information from ‘there’.

For example, he could perceive the voice of one of the deceased whom he recognized as an uncle in his dream. This uncle had guided him on several occasions, giving him a lot of new information. But in exchange, that uncle also learned new things from Tatsumi.

Half a month had passed while Tatsumi was on the ship that carried him and his family to the Comberth Continent.

It was said that the Comberth Continent was where the first civilization existed, so Tatsumi was curious about that pce.

“Sister Charlene, can you tell me more about the Comberth Continent?” asked Tatsumi when he was with Charlene.

“What do you want to know? If I can answer it to you, I will tell you immediately.” Charlene replied with a smile.

Tatsumi pced his forefinger on his forehead, thinking about the thing he wanted to ask. Then he opened his mouth.

“I want to know about the Father God. According to Sister Charlene, he is the one who suggests the three rge tribes to be united sometime before the first Star Battle, correct? Just who exactly is he?”

Charlene was stunned for a moment. She expected the questions but had difficulties in answering them. Nevertheless, she replied.

“He is the one who guides our civilization. According to some reports from the Thebes Kingdom, they encountered the incarnation of the Father God and did all the things he asked. But I don’t know whether this is true or not. You can either take it with a grain of salt or treat this seriously.”

Tatsumi felt that the answer was a bit…subjective but he was not the one to judge people over that.

For Tatsumi, though, the Father God could not be more real just like his connection to ‘there’ and communicating with that uncle.

“Why would he do that? Do you know?” Tatsumi asked again.

“Perhaps he wanted the human civilization to thrive and develop more. That is the one thing we have figured out. As for what this meant, we don’t know yet.”

Charlene then furrowed her brow, thinking about her own opinion of the matter.

“Other than that, I also want to know about the Hinon Federation.” Tatsumi added to distract Charlene from that difficult topic.

Charlene felt that Tatsumi knew that the topic became a bit hard as it involved something beyond their perception so she started to speak.

“Hinon Federation is formed right at the thirty-first year of the Father God Calendar. It is formed due to the strong public opinion regarding the development of the harmonious civilization between humans and dwarves.

“At that time, there were tensions between the two races due to certain policies regarding the treatment of the dwarves in the Unified Thebes Kingdom. It was said that the technological advancement of the human civilization was rgely due to the assimition of the dwarves' technology.”

Charlene said this because Tatsumi often heard about things from the Comberth Continent from her. That was why the topic could stimute more thoughts in Tatsumi’s head.

Charlene then saw Tatsumi with a look that could be said to be asking for more. To him, it was something new and interesting. Charlene then continued.

“That year also marked the end of the Second Star Battle with the being known as the Undead Race. According to the information avaible, the Undead Race now resides in the Undead Secret Realm inside the current Thebes Kingdom. Tatsumi, do you know what is the signature sign of an undead?”

“Oh, I know. It is the Undead Element that they emit. It is said that the Undead Element is a bane for all living beings.” Tatsumi answered the question but this made Charlene shocked.

It was because she never said such things to Tatsumi yet here he was answering that question as if he had knowledge source from somewhere.

No, she was just surprised by how Tatsumi had such a connection to ‘that pce’. The pce where the deceased resided.

‘Looks like he is without a doubt the most suitable person for connecting with the deceased.’ This point was what surprised her the most every time she saw it.

“Correct. So what happens if a normal human is exposed to the Undead Element?”

“They will experience bad syndromes like dizziness at the lightest and death at the most severe. But it doesn’t work like that if someone has the Necromancer’s Trait.” Tatsumi answered once again.

Charlene nodded. She looked at the seven-year-old boy with care. To her, he was the most suitable person to represent her mental model as well as the possible afterlife model she had.

“Hmm.” Charlene then continued, “Do you have any more questions?”

“Actually, I want to know why Sister Charlene can be so knowledgeable.” Tatsumi looked at her with admiration.

During their interaction, Tatsumi noticed that Charlene had a lot of topics to speak of. From something simple like everyday occurrences to specific topics like history and also a certain branch of knowledge that he did not know about.

That was why he wanted to know where Charlene learned all of them.

“In the Hinon Federation, all children get a twelve-year compulsory education. This recently established w is the reason why the young can get so much more knowledge. Of course, you can also self-study to deepen the knowledge that you have gained but they usually attend education institutions.” Charlene answered.

“Wow, that means Sister Charlene is impressive that you can be here without attending the education institution.” Tatsumi nodded his head.

“No, it’s not that I don’t attend school but I am still going there sometimes even though most topics at my age are simple in my eyes. That is why I feel that fully attending the school is unnecessary. This is not something that you should replicate.” Charlene warned.

Tatsumi also noticed that the rate at which Charlene learned things was fast enough that he was amazed every time he saw it.

In this regard, both of them noticed each other's uniqueness and admired it.

They spoke with each other and deepened their understanding of each other. Other than that, Tatsumi also asked about several topics in a row.

Until a notification announcement was sounded. It was actually the loudspeaker at the high corner of the ship’s cabin that reyed the voice but it was still loud enough for the two of them to hear.

“Attention to all passengers, we will soon sail through the predicted area with a known roaming giant sea beast. Caution is advised. I repeat, caution is advised.”

Because of the announcement, Charlene and Tatsumi had no choice but to get out. They wanted to see how much of an impact the announcement had on people.

Getting out of the cabin by pushing the heavy door, Tatsumi and Charlene could see several people get out of their cabin the same way.

“Let’s go out and see the sea with the giant sea beast. It will be an unforgettable moment in your life. Just don’t linger at the edge of the guardrail.” One of the people went to the deck to see the spectacle himself.

The others also followed and headed toward the deck. Charlene grabbed Tatsumi’s hand and guided him along the way. Although it was a bit embarrassing, Tatsumi did not let go of his hand.

After arriving at the deck, they could feel the sea breeze and the obvious view of the waves around the ship.

The ship swayed along with the waves but it was light enough that the people aboard only felt it slightly. There were quite a few people at the deck, watching the distant sea where they could see something that they could not see on nd.

Tatsumi was led by Charlene to take a position. After that, she raised his little body and rested him on her shoulder.

She felt that the weight she had to endure was quite heavy. But it also meant that the boy was healthy so she was caught between ughing and crying.

Even so, she stabilized her body so that both of them could stand still on the moving ship’s deck.

“Look at that pce! The maw of that sea beast is rge enough for ten people standing side by side.” Tatsumi pointed at that certain direction and Charlene saw it.

The sea beast was greyish in color but its size was comparable to their ship. Its maw opened wide as it devoured some smaller sea beasts caught within its range. It came to the surface to catch it and caused waves to be created.

Tatsumi could barely see its eyes which were almost hidden. But it was located at the top utmost part of the head so he could still see it.

Several excmations could be heard as people were admiring the sea beast from the distance. The beast jumped off from the sea surface, creating waves as it raised above the seawater.

Then it nded and created another wave in the process of diving into the depths of the sea once more. This did not happen once but numerous times. The distance was far enough that the waves that came to the ship were small.

All of the people who witnessed this could be said to be amazed. They rarely got to see wildlife so seeing one even from a distance provided them with new wonders.

That also could be said to include Tatsumi and Charlene. Both of them had never seen a rge beast so they focused their attention to the crowd of the sea beasts that gathered in the distance.

This happened as the ship passed through the area. The people even took some pictures of the beast in the distance using a new device called a camera.

In fact, the military was the first one to utilize its use to capture pictures of the area of operation as well as key locations. Charlene knew this and realized that the usage of cameras had finally spread to the civilian sector as well.

“Sister Charlene, what is the device that some people use? What are they doing with it?” at the same time Tatsumi noticed that people were using it and could not help but ask.

“Oh, that is a device that can capture the moment into a picture. Most of them captured the moment the sea beast came to the surface so the picture that they captured was probably it. Of course, there is wide applicability to the utility of the device called camera.” Charlene expined.

“Capture a moment, does it mean it can capture the picture of anything the device is pointing to?”

  “Yes. You catch on quick.”

Tatsumi could only watch as the people with the device in their hands captured the moment and transformed it into a picture. For him, he could only capture that moment and ingrained it into his head.

Then the people also realized that there was someone with knowledge about the sea beast.

“Those beasts that capture your attention are called Kleos. It is a sea beast species in the sea and also the apex predator of the sea.”

Hearing that caused people to congregate around that person. Charlene then moved closer to that person so she and Tatsumi could hear what he was saying.

“Kleos is known as the shipwrecker. It is because the early sea exploration group faced this beast when they traveled through the sea. Encountering them close will cause them to treat the ship as another prey to be devoured. That is why we create the ship big enough so that it won’t be devoured easily.”

That person expined a bit of history about the beast and the human effort to deal with it.

“Other than that, they preyed on the smaller animals that swim near the surface. That is why we need to know the location of the Kleos and not wander around their area of activity. The captain of this ship knows that and slightly takes a detour around the area you have just seen.”

Tatsumi who heard such a thing had a glimmer in his eyes. He smiled as he thought about the beast in his head.

To him, the beast was able to roam the sea unfettered and unrestrained which was actually the greatest thing he could imagined. Not only that but Kleos was also an apex predator which meant that the beast was at the top of the food chain.

The concept of the food chain was introduced to humanity long before even Father God Dian appeared in front of humans. It was just that the form was a bit rough and not comprehensive but it was understandable to all.

That was why Tatsumi understood about it and could imagine himself as a Kleos.

But then Charlene pced him down. Tatsumi let her do that and he stood on the ground, where he could only see the legs of the people crowded around that person.

“Mm.” Tatsumi knew that he had to make it to the front so he slipped past the people crowding around and slowly moved closer.

Charlene also followed behind him to make sure that he was fine.

“The first sighting of Kleos was where the adventurer finally met something that could threaten the ship they were on. Fortunately, the adventurer made a pn to make a convoy of ships so that even if one was sunk, the other vessel could come to help. And that is exactly what was happening. The adventurers whose ship was sunk were rescued by the other ship. And that was how the record write it.”

Tatsumi could hear the voice grow clearer the closer he got to that person. And then he finally realized that he was at the forefront. No other people were obstructing him.

That person wanted to say another known information regarding Kleos but his eyes were on Tatsumi. That person was actually quite young. He just became an adult if it went according to standard. He wore a white coat that covered his upper body while he wore matching white long pants.

At this moment, that person noticed that Tatsumi was coming to him and wanted to hear about the topic that was spoken.

“Oh, look at that. We even have young ones in our presence.” That person then came closer to Tatsumi.

“Please tell us more.” Tatsumi could only say that. He was truly curious about Kleos as he had never seen such creatures before and hearing that someone expined it in detail made him even more curious.

Charlene who chased after Tatsumi from behind finally shifted through the crowd and arrived right behind him.

“Alright, let me continue. Where was I? Oh, right. About the intersecting history between humans and Kleos. Do you know that Kleos usually roamed around the deeper part of the sea? That is because of their big bodies that they are suitable for deep sea. Although we have never come to that depth but we are mostly sure because the pce where Kleos roams is usually the area where there is a deeper part of the sea.” That person continued with his expnation but carefully pced Tatsumi closer to him.

How could he not? Tatsumi was the youngest among the people so he had to take care of the young boy.

Charlene looked at the person carefully. She noticed that he had a wristband which was covered a bit by the sleeves of his white coat.

‘That is…’ Charlene then thought about the report she had received from the soldiers of the Hinon Federation about the group of people that helped them in stabilizing the Heavensend Kingdom and defeating the Snatcher who had been rooted deep.

But before she could address it, that person was already on his way to expin more about the sea that he knew.

Tatsumi who heard the new things could not help but be captivated by it. He probably imagined the scenario that the person was speaking.

“Hmm. I can see that happening. But Sir, I want to know the name of the one who is knowledgeable about the sea.” Charlene then said what Tatsumi wanted to know.

“I am Ishimura Ryo. I have studied the knowledge about the sea and the animals in it. Of course, the reason I go to the Hinon Federation is due to the diplomatic retionship.” The person introduced himself and saw that Tatsumi nodded his head while Charlene looked at him seriously.

“Can you tell me more about the sea? I have never heard anything about the sea other than it is a vast area that humanity has barely explored.” Tatsumi spiritedly said. He truly wanted to know about the sea and the creatures that lived in it.

“Of course. But I also have some people who are interested in what I am saying so I will have to include them too. You don’t mind, do you?”

“It’s fine by me. The more the merrier.”

Then Ishimura Ryo began to talk about the sea ecosystem that scientists like him knew so far. It included the many areas of the sea as well as the food chain in it.

He also expined about the current research regarding the deep sea creatures that some of the fishermen caught sometimes. The way he told it was so exciting that Tatsumi never grew tired of hearing it.

Charlene also got some knowledge regarding the sea but the expnation but Ishimura Ryo brought her understanding one level deeper. For the rest of the journey, the three of them often meet each other on several occasions.

This made them acquainted with each other and at least knew superficial information about each other.
