Chapter 14: Let’s Get Paid II

It had almost been two months since his night at the The Cracked Lantern, and now the night had finally arrived. Confidence soared through him as he went over the pn one st time, zipping through the evening air like a shadow. Their rotation was predictable, just as he'd hoped, and he was certain they'd never expect him to hit them on this particur night. They’d know it was him again probably, but that didn’t matter. He was counting on it. He was already fully suited up by the time he reached the building, and he dove into the operation with a fierce focus. As he entered, he moved with swift precision, flying directly toward the two supers in Exosuits he had seen on his st visit. They were stationed near the door, exactly where he expected, but he had no intention of giving them a chance to react. His speed was blistering, nearly a hundred miles an hour, and he blew past them so quickly they barely had time to register his presence. He had pinpointed their main operation floor before and flew right into it. Naked women were everywhere, working furiously to fill bags with cocaine, crack, or whatever else the Allstars were dealing. It seemed like chaos, but he knew it was a well-oiled machine lined with bodies from wall to wall. Guards dotted the room, some men, others women, all ready for a fight, each armed with guns and wearing intimidating supersuits.

He didn’t give them a chance to draw or fire, rushing directly past them into a rge room that looked just like what he was hoping for. His hunch was right. This was the center of their operation. The pce was filled with boxes of cash, and an East Asian woman sat calmly counting stacks of money even as he burst through the door. She was dressed in a supersuit, and he knew immediately she had to be Jenny, the one running this whole operation. It didn’t matter what powers she had. He hit her before she could react. As he flew at her, he felt the impact resonate through his body as he crashed square into her chest. Her ribs gave way with a sickening crack, but he didn’t stop to check if she was dead or alive. He had already decided on an in and out pn. He grabbed her broken body and flung her with brutal strength, sending her into a group of guards. She collided with them, a screech of agony tearing from her lips as they scattered like pins, caught completely off guard.Without slowing, he made his way to a massive safe looming in the corner. It looked like it was made of steel, but to him it was paper. He ripped the heavy door off with ease, revealing mountains of cash inside, stacks upon stacks of dolrs. He moved with frenzied speed, piling the money into a rge canvas sack until it was nearly bursting.

In a blur of motion, he flew straight up, crashing through the ceiling like a missile, the force of his escape bsting debris in his wake. He rocketed into the floor above, his flight relentless as he punched through the walls of the apartment building, a whirlwind of speed and precision. Before they even knew what happened, he had already made it into a storage closet and then out of the building altogether, streaking through the sky at 90 mph with the colossal load of money in tow.

Had they been prepared for him? It didn’t look like it. He was in and out in seconds, and as he made his airborne escape, he looked back only to see a lone figure flying in his direction. It was probably Jenny, trying to follow him in her crippled state. She was determined, but not fast enough. He pushed on, the gap widening, and after several more seconds, he was alone against the starry night.

He reduced his supersuit to just his wristband before he flew to on top of a building and put all of the money into a different duffle bag that he put up here a few hours before. After changing clothes he flew back home and went into the sewers. As he went into the room he smiled as dumped the money out and pulled out his money counter. After several minutes at the money counter he had over 500k dolrs from the robbery. This was more money than he had ever seen in his life. While he could use more Evo-Shots he could not go back to The Cracked Lantern unless he wanted people to start connecting dots. “Maybe The Broker can get me another shot or at least order one. I can afford an increased markup.” As he woke up he went over to The Broker Office as he was escorted by the same guard from before. As he was motioned to sit down The Broker immediately started to speak.“Your rent is going up to 10K.” Mark did a double take and stared daggers at her. “Why?”“You are bringing unprecedented levels of heat down on The Sewers. Until you slow down your rent will continue to rise. There is ‘I murdered a guy and I need to hide from the cops levels’ of heat and there is ‘I robbed hundreds of thousands of dolrs from a major gang in the district’ levels of heat. “ As she spoke Mark looked away.“That noticeable huh?” The Broker facepalmed.“You know that people have tracking superpowers right? You can’t completely mask your presence. We have a presence masking super here that is stopping your scent near this area but people definitely know that either you are in the sewers or you are hiding out near The Sewers.” She continued to look at him.“Robbing an Arcade for a few thousand is not a big deal but you running up and one of the towers and robbing it of more than half of a million dolrs is totally different. I suggest you y low and but I don’t think you have a bright future. You are what? A Rank 2 Super with Flight and a Superhuman body? It's a strong combination but that’s not even in the top 10 percent of the strongest combinations of powers. They will call Super Assassins to hunt you and they can bypass normal guards.”Mark smiled. “Let’s just say I am not your normal Super.”
