After the grand introduction, Benito led Lucien inside one of the tall white buildings. Lucien saw a massive open ground of pure white, white floors, walls, tons and tons of rooms, everything is white, and clean. In the open ground, many people ran around, wearing white lab coats. The sight is quite similar to the ordinary workers he saw prior.
“Those are scientists. Every building and base of the bureau also holds a laboratory for research of Chaos Technology. Some of the scientists are low ranked Chaoswalkers, and some are regular people who are recruited due to their capabilities…Heheh, if you got a good score in the University of Evelstein you might become one of them.”
“Chaoswalkers…”
“I have explained about Order and Chaos before, right? They are clashing energies and direct opposites so what would happen if they were combined?”
Lucien stayed silent. Benito explained while they walked towards an unknown place.
“The answer is Chaos wins, Order loses. The creation of Order or everything in the natural world will get consumed by the Chaos energy, and become a Chaos Entity. Whether they be animals, objects, or some sort of concept, they will get swallowed by Chaos…However, amongst them, one exception remains amongst the creatures of Order.”
“And they are humans?”
“Correct. No one knows why exactly that is the case. Perhaps the Primordial Order loved humans so much that they made them the greatest creature on earth. Regardless of reason, humans have the capabilities of adapting through Chaos, and even gaining strength on their own…Of course, there are certain risks involved, when humans get corrupted by Chaos, if the Chaos corruption surpass a certain threshold that a being could endure, they turn into a Chaos Entity regardless of what happens. Even if the body itself could endure, if the mind couldn’t, then there will be a high chance for corruption as well. But if they endure both physically and mentally, they can become a special being named Chaoswalkers.”
Lucien frowned.
“The world of Chaoswalkers seems to become more unattractive by the second.”
“Hahaha, you haven’t seen anything yet. It’s probably the worst job one could get into…But if you’re ambitious, and are willing to bear some risks, then it would be the best path. For in this world, the supernatural exists…We have arrived.”
After walking for a long time, Benito opened a room and inside, there was a chair with countless wires and cables surrounding it, all colors varying. The wires themselves were not attached, instead they just flew all around, unorganized, while pointing at the chair, they had holes on them, as if they were to be attached to something.
“What is that?”
“Go and take a seat. Don’t worry, it’s safe.”
‘My ass it is.’ Lucien smiled. He knew intimately what that machine was.
‘The greatest lie detection machine made. By attaching the wires into the entire body, the machine can observe the blood flow, brain waves, and various indicators that can be analyzed and summarized whether a person is saying a lie or not through the many datas.’
It is almost impossible to trick too. But almost, doesn’t mean impossible.
Lucien leisurely sat down on the chair, and the cables immediately stuck themselves all around Lucien’s body. It didn’t hurt, in fact, there was no feeling whatsoever.
“This feels creepy. What is this really?”
Instead of responding, Benito sat in a chair, and many holograms appeared besides him. He looked towards the many holograms hovering besides him, giving him various data. Benito, who still hasn't opened up his mask, stated.
“Don’t worry. It will not hurt you. Now, I want to ask just a few questions, and I hope you can answer them truthfully… Then no one will have to get hurt.”
Lucien scoffed in his mind at the threat, but on the outside, his facial expression stiffened. He then glared at Benito.
“This is why people say not to trust officials.”
“That’s too harsh. I really meant it when no one has to get hurt. Truthfully, this is just a procedure for recruitment. So please be understanding.”
“Fine. Ask away.”
“Please wait.”
Benito said before he typed something with the holographic keyboard. Then many other holograms appeared, and he looked through them all fast. He also had his sight stuck on one particular hologram, Lucien couldn’t see exactly what it was through the back but he seemed to be watching something. Benito then flinched as if something surprised him before typing something again.
After a long while, Benito turned towards Lucien.
“Sorry for the long wait. The first question I wanted to ask is why exactly had you knocked the security guard and intentionally went towards the source of the explosion. I had originally thought you were in the examination space from the start, but this…It is quite a suspicious matter, so speak up.”

Lucien then felt a sense of intimidation coming from Benito. His heart felt clenched, and sweat started to appear from his body. Lucien however wasn’t nervous in the slightest. Considering this level of strength, Benito must be a Rank 3 Peak Stage, right at the threshold of becoming a Stage 4. For an agent, this level of strength indicates an elite…However, what of it?
Lucien didn’t panic because of such a pathetic attempt of intimidation. He had fought gods
before, so why fear a man who is not even Rank 9? Lucien opened his mouth.
“It’s because I was pissed off. I had studied my hardest prior to the examination, yet I was not allowed to enter just because I had no student ID? If he even bothers to check that I am a student there, then there would have been no need to knock him out. I simply left my student ID at home, and if I were to go back, and forth to pick it up the test would’ve ended already.”
Benito looked at a certain hologram before the sense of intimidation disappeared. The lie detection machine must’ve confirmed it was true. Benito clutched his head.
“Wait, wait. You knocked down a guard just because you had no ID? Then why go to the source of explosions…And you even brought an electric baton.”
“Because if so, wouldn’t I pass if I were in the source of the explosion after everything was taken care off? It was a disaster after all. Not the fault of students, but the university. Usually, in things like this everyone will be allowed to pass the university, right?”
“...Then why bring an electric baton around? And why fight the worms?”
“For what reason does a man NOT have an electric baton in hand? Whether to protect himself, or others. As for why I fought, wouldn’t I get an award or something if I saved some students along the way? Then I could also pass that way too right? At least if the university has some kind of conscience.”
“...Alright, that’s enough for the first question.”
Benito clutched his head with both hands. He is probably thinking of Lucien as a lunatic right now, but that is fine. Through the camera, Lucien’s actions were heroic, so even if he was deemed a lunatic, he would be deemed a righteous one.
‘How truly easy it is to trick a machine.’
At the end of the day, the machine only analyzed what was inside of his body. The bloodflow, heartbeat stemming from nervousness and a myriad of all the other factors. If so, all he need to do is to control those things, and he will be deemed truthful.
‘The best lie is a truth mixed with lies. But I say, a lunatic’s mind is the greatest lie. For they believe what is false, to be the truth.’
And currently, Lucien is following the lunatic’s way of mind. To wholeheartedly believe what he says to be the truth! Hence why the machine couldn’t detect him.
“Alright. Now I get why you did those things…Alright, second question.”
Benito then asked a few more questions. From where he had come from, did he have any criminal records, and all those kinds of stuff. After asking all those questions, Benito nodded.
“Alright. Then the questions are finished. You can stand up now. We need to check your aptitude next.”
“Aptitude? What is that?”
Benito grinned.
“Simply put, it's talent. It will be the deciding factor on how greatly the organization will treat you. The better your aptitude, the better the treatment will be. Though don’t worry, even if you are talentless you will still get basic education. I suppose you can just think of the other factors as sponsors.”
“...Isn’t talent worthless without hard work? Why do the organizations value mere aptitudes so much?”
“Hahaha. You will understand this later on. Now go over to the machine over there.”
Benito pointed at a machine which has an empty space with machines of all types surrounding it. Lucien stood in the empty space.
“Don’t move alright. These are scanners.”
Lucien nodded. Then after Benito typed a few things, the machines started moving from up to down, scanning each and every part of Lucien’s body. Lucien kept still until the machine was done. Then Benito, who had been typing, had his eyes widened slightly before he whistled.
“Hoh, not bad. You are an A-. Congrats.”
“Is that good?”
“Quite. You’re not exactly a genius. But you are just right below it.”
Benito typed something, before he closed the holograms making all the floating blue screen disappear. Benito then turned towards Lucien.
“Lucien Hale. Let’s have some real talk for a bit. As you may already know, the world of Chaoswalkers is very unattractive, dangerous, and honestly just not worth it. And I am even more sorry to say this, but it seems like you will have no choice but to enter such a world.”
“Why so? Do Chaoswalkers not have free will? It’s even stated in the law that free will is amongst the priorities.” Lucien said while glaring at Benito. The latter sighed.
“We cannot have any Chaoswalkers walk around free in our country without surveillance. No that there aren’t any, but they are illegal Chaoswalkers, basically. If you do not want to be a criminal you are forced to join here, whether as a researcher or as an agent…I don’t know if this will bring you some sort of consolation, but I too was forced here.”
“I don’t care about that. Geez, this is why people say our country is heading to ruin. Even free will is taken from us.”
Benito didn’t respond. Instead he just scratched his head, and said.
“Sorry about that. You can complain to the upper echelons when you rise up the ranks. Besides, it’s not as if you don’t have any free will whatsoever. You can choose between being an Agent or a Researcher. You can guess the differences, right?
“What exactly are their pros and cons?”
“Researcher, high pay, but low rank. Very busy, but little to no dangers. Agent, very high pay, high rank, but very high danger as well. Busy, but far less than a Researcher…Also, to take note, you can still rise in rankings, or even switch careers if you want to…And, if you were to become an Agent, you will be able to get significant power surpassing that of mortals, if you do well of course. You saw our fight before right?”
Lucien nodded, making his eyes sparkle a bit as if he was in awe of the power the agents showed. He then stayed silent for a while, but from the start, he had already decided.
“Then I pick Agent.”
“Hahaha, well a man craves power don’t they? It is a good choice, especially since you are an A- Aptitude…Well then, welcome to the Evelstein Chaoswalker Bureau. Lucien Hale.”
Benito extended his hands forward, and Lucien shook it.
