“A FRIENDLY THREAT”

The class was over. Yaraa was taking Kathir to the hospital. After a few minutes, Kathir woke up.

Yaraa asked, “How the hell did you get hurt like this?”

But Kathir didn’t answer. Seeing this, Yaraa stopped questioning and focused on getting back to college.

Before Yaraa lost consciousness during the fight, he had seen Kathir speaking with someone—someone who gave a unique hand sign known only by members of the Fourth Group. That was enough for Yaraa to decide: someone from the Fourth Group had done this to Kathir

On his way to college, Yaraa spotted Thara. She was at a café, sitting with someone. he approached. As he got closer, he saw the other person—Tamizh

Yaraa was shocked but kept a straight face.

  “Hey, Thara,” he said.

Thara glanced up. “Who are you?”

“I’m your classmate. Don’t you remember?”

It was clear she recognized him, but she chose to ignore that.

  “No. I don’t know you.”

Yaraa caught on quickly and smiled slightly. “Oh, you don’t know me? I thought you were my classmate. Anyway, sorry.” Then he turned and walked away.

As Yaraa left, Tamizh looked at Thara. “Do you know him?”

  “He’s my classmate,”

  “Then why did you lie?”

Thara replied, “Because if I started talking to him, our time would’ve been wasted. That’s all.”

Tamizh smirked and asked casually, “Which school did you study at?”

Without thinking, Thara answered, “Government Hr. Sec. School.”

Tamizh studied her quietly for a moment, then left without saying anything. Thara looked confused.

Just then, Yaraa returned and sat opposite her.

It was clear—he had been waiting for Tamizh to leave.

He leaned forward. “Now, can we talk?”

  Thara nodded.

Yaraa asked, “Why are you doing this?”

Thara frowned. “Doing what? What are you talking about?”

Yaraa smiled. “Do you really think he believed what you told him?”

Thara’s eyes narrowed. “How do you know what we talked about?”

Yaraa held up his phone. “Because of this.”

He had left his second phone under the table, recording everything.

Thara’s expression didn’t change. “I knew. What I am doing.”

Yaraa was surprised. “Then why are you doing this, Thara?”

“That’s none of your business. Tell me why you wanted to talk.”

Yaraa paused, then replied, “Because my friend wants to meet you.”

“Friend?” Thara raised an eyebrow. “You have a friend? From what I saw in class, no one even talks to you.”

Yaraa nodded. “He’s not from our class. He’s my roommate—and my best friend.”

“How does he know about me?”

Yaraa smirked. “Because you’re the hot topic of our college right now.”

Thara rolled her eyes. “Okay, fine. But why the hell should I meet your best friend?”

Yaraa leaned closer. “Because if you don’t… I’ll tell Tamizh about why you’re really dating him.”

Thara’s expression changed instantly. “What? Why would I date Tamizh? Tell me what you think you know.”

Yaraa smiled slyly. “I don’t know anything for sure. But it feels

Thara glared. “So what? What can you even do?”

Yaraa played the audio recording from his phone—the conversation she had with yaraa.

  Thara froze.

“What do you want, you bastard?” she snapped.

Yaraa gave her a slow look, up and down. “Nothing for now. Just do what you are doing until I say otherwise.”

  Thara’s thoughts were racing.

Yaraa, as if reading her mind, said, “I know what you’re thinking. So don’t try anything. Do nothing unless I tell you. Got it?”

  Thara was shocked again.

She didn’t respond, just nodded reluctantly.

“Oh, and tomorrow’s a holiday,” Yaraa added. “We’re going out—with my friend. Be ready.”

  Yaraa walked away.

Thara sat there for nearly an hour, deep in thought.

  And then… someone else arrived.
