Friends

My sword was pointed right at Aric's throat.

  I had pnned this perfectly.

I couldn’t beat him with just my sword, but waiting until the end to use magic made it so that I could distract him. With that, I was able to close the distance and give a decisive blow.

But I had waited too long.

I wanted to figure out all of his moves to get a good idea of what I was going against. But that led me to not being able to finish the fight.

  I ran out of time.

  Right before I made contact.

As the knight called the end of the fight.

And for a few seconds Aric and I just stood there looking at each other.

I was nervous about facing Aric.

Aric Voidwalker was one of the coolest characters from Starcross Adventure. He was a mysterious character during the story. He had no way to add him to your party and no romance path.

He didn’t even have a side quest.

But that made a lot of sense when you made it to the post game.

There, you could find him as a super boss.

Even with my 1000 hours in the game, I made it no where close to beating him. His level was far above any I had seen.

There were rumors on the forums that he was meant to be impossible.

But with no real level cap, that was almost definitely not true.

Eventually, as we stared at each other, Aric started to ugh.

“That was awesome” he said, looking at me with a smile. “We should be friends”

“Huh?” I said, confused by what was going on. Aric was always alone in the game, with no group.

“Yeah, I think we are going to be good friends” he said, and walked off the battleground.

I just stared at him dumbfounded.

“Did, I break something?” I said to myself.

But with that, I made my way off of the battle ground as well.

I had spent all of the testing time with Emily, so I just went back to where she was. When my fight had started, I asked her to hold my bag as well.

“That was really impressive” Emily said when I made my way to her.

She handed me back my bag. Then the knight spoke up again.

“Allright, Everyone. We are done for today. Your csses will be announced a week before the school session begins. Be sure to come back to check as early as you can” he said.

With that, the css started to disperse. I had to go find Rose before heading home, so I was going to look around the combat area to hopefully find her.

There was around 10 testing groups of around 50 people each. It was a good half and half for the research and combat csses so that would be around 250 people in the combat area currently.

I just had to look around to find her.

“Um…” I started saying to Emily who had not left yet. “I have to go find my friend…”. I wasn’t sure how to say goodbye to her.

“Oh, I’ll help you look for them” she says, not leaving.

“O…OK” I say back, confused by why she was not leaving. “They should be in the combat area somewhere” I tell her.

As we started to walk away, I noticed that one other person was still here.

  “I’m coming too” he said.

Aric followed behind us as I started looking for Rose.

“So, Nyx” Emily said while we were looking around. “Why didn’t you come to the noble debut 2 years ago?”.

“Oh… I have a chronic Illness” I say, jumping from her question.

“Really, you seem to be in perfect health” Aric said, jumping into the conversation.

“Yes, the person interrupting our time is right” Emily said, gring at Aric.

“Oh, well it's not a physical illness” I say, embarrassed by the answer. “Have you ever heard of the term agoraphobia?”

  Neither of them answer.

“It's an anxiety disorder that made it so I was afraid to leave my house” I expin, deciding to face my fear.

“Oh” they both say, looking at me with pity.

“But, you're doing better now, right?” Emily asked.

  “Yeah” I say.

From there we continued on. Eventually Aric brought up a new topic.

“So, how come you are so strong?” he asked me.

“Oh, well I trained everyday with my dad. I couldn’t leave home, but I still needed to fill my time with other things” I expined to him. “And it turns out I have a knack for the sword”

“Not to mention magic” Emily said, now interjecting into Aric's conversation. “You said you knew several elements of magic already”

This gets Aric to smile. “Really? How strong are you with them? What elements do you know? How about another fight where you use more magic?” he started.

But his enthusiasm pushes me back.

And suddenly someone grabs my back, pushing Aric back.

“Excuse me, but I would ask you to please give my master more room” they say.

  It was Rose.

“What?” both Emily and Aric said.

“Oh, Rose, I was looking for you” I say.

“Nyx, who is this?” Aric said, losing his smile.

“Oh, this is my friend, Rose. She is also a maid that works for my family” I expined.

  “A maid, huh” he said.

“Master, we should head back to the mansion. Your parents will be waiting for you” Rose says, grabbing my hand, and leading me home.

“Rose, I need to say bye to them” I say, but she doesn’t stop. “Ah, fine. Bye. Maybe we will see each other when school starts” I yell back to both Emily and Aric.

When we got far away from them, Rose spoke up again. “Master Nyx, I believe you need to select your friends better” she told me.

“What do you mean?” I ask.

“They very clearly had ulterior motives.” she says.

“Rose, I don’t think you can say that. One of them is a princess of our country” I tell her.

“Even if she was, who knows what she is trying to do with you” Rose said.

“I don’t think she has bad pns” I say.

  ∴

After Rose pulled Nyx away, Aric just stared off.

Emily was about to walk away, not really caring about Aric. But before she could, Aric spoke up.

“Excuse me, Princess Emily von Stardom, can I ask you something?” he said to her.

“Hmm, what is it?” she said.

She had seen the interest he showed in Nyx, but knew that eventually he would lose interest.

“Did… did you see that girl come up to Nyx?” he asked her. “Or sense her at all?”

  “Um, no. why?”

“Because I didn’t either” he said, with a scowl.
