Guardians

Sebas walked quietly behind his master as they travelled to the human capital, memorising the information so easily acquired from this high status figure. The Supreme beings had certainly not wasted any time since they arrived in this new world. They were already acquainted with a great figure in one of the rgest kingdoms surrounding Nazarick. Not only that but they were currently acquiring information. He was listening at this very moment to the head warrior describe the three countries in the nearby area, This Re-Estize kingdom, the Baharuth Empire and the Sne Theocracy.

Nazarick had been pced inside the corrupt nation of noble supremacy, Re-Estize. They were currently at war with the Baharuth Empire who considerably outmatch them. It appeared to be more of a war to deplete resources than a true takeover as they would rarely send more than a couple orders of knights.

Then there was the Sne Theocracy, the true perpetrators of this attack on the vilge. A religious nation rooted in human supremacy. Sebas had heard from his colleagues that Lady Selene had gone to investigate personally so he would not be surprised if they found themselves colpsing overnight. Such was the effect Lady Selene appeared to have on everything around her. As a creation of the supreme beings he was absolutely loyal to her but the actions she took certainly conflicted with the values instilled in him by her colleagues.

He had heard that was not uncommon. Lady Selene was the least well-liked among the supreme beings and also considered the most powerful of their number. While she may have lost to his creator Touch me in a tournament Sebas had heard what they thought of her.

She seemed to have some power over the others and in ter spars she had been rather vicious in establishing she could have beaten his creator. Over and over again.

Sebas refocused his mind and cleared it of that image, returning to the task at hand. He looked at his master and noticed that now Albedo was standing beside him. Sebas narrowed his eyes at the sight, to presume to be as close as Albedo currently was bordered on disloyalty. That said the Supreme Being was allowing it. He would keep his thoughts to himself for now but he had noticed her preference between the Supreme beings. Something that should not be present in their ever loyal creations.

Narberal seemed to be tacitly consenting beside him however.

  ---

Clenup had been given a mission by his mistress and that meant today was going to be a wonderful day. Any world could become fun if his creator arrived in it. He had been given the task of starting a business and oh how he looked forward to it. Best of all, he had free reign. So long as his true species and allegiances were not revealed, of course. Even now he fantasised about it: A casino, where the humans would destroy themselves, a mercenary guild, where they would destroy each other, a factory, where they would destroy the world. Oh, it just excited him so. He couldn’t wait to see what the mistress did with the stage he would set up for her and oh it had to be perfect.

Now he simply had to organise the best seat in the house. If Momonga was going to be setting up in the kingdom of Re-Estize then perhaps he should set up there? Then again if Momonga was there it would restrain his Mistress slightly. In which case it would be better to avoid the kingdom for now which left him with the Empire or the Theocracy.

He smiled to himself. Why not both? He began with the Empire if only because his Mistress had cautioned him about the Theocracy. Soon enough though he would expand.

  ---

I sat in my chair at the seat of the 42 ‘Supreme beings’ or in other words the guild’s conference table. Behind me stood Demiurge, Cocytus and Kelly. On the table was a dispy from the mirror of remote viewing showing Momon and his party. They were currently heading towards the kingdom’s capital with this head warrior and his little band of merry men. I tapped my fingernails against the table as I watched.

“That went about as well as expected.” I commented as I watched Satarau chat up this apparently important figure, finding out crucial information as he went.

“With this we can leave the kingdom to Momonga. Keep an eye on his progress but try to keep your own interference to a minimum unless he orders otherwise.” I told everyone behind me before switching off the mirror. “Now, all of you might have realised that we’re a bit short on leadership figures at the moment.” I brought up the one thing none of the guardians were brave enough to. The room immediately descended into the kind of silence that would follow a funeral and I was sorely tempted to let them stew in it for a bit.

You know what I will. We sat in silence for several uncomfortable seconds before finally addressing the issue. “Your creators aren’t coming back.” Oh, the pain on their faces was delightful and I just had to revel in the kind of trouble I couldn’t cause back home.

Cocytus’ tail was almost dragging along the floor and even Demiurge’s posture had stiffened slightly. Kelly’s wings also drooped but her most dramatic reaction was her fists. They clenched so hard around her weapons that they started creaking and her feet started to face the door before she hesitated. She hadn’t been dismissed but she really wanted to get out of here. She was sure a good round of torture would cheer her up again, it had to.

“So… We truly had failed them such that they would abandon us.” Even Demiurge’s voice cracked at this.

Ok, I’ve had my fun by this point so time to give them a pusible expnation that makes me look good and the rest look heartless. “I’ll expin in terms you will understand.” She told them all which had their rapt attention focus on her once more. “You can think of this world and Yggdrasil as ‘lower worlds’ for ck of a better term. We are beings from a ‘higher world’.” Just have to make it vague enough that we keep our status as ‘Supreme ones’ but specific enough they get the gist.

“In that higher world we have completely different lives. You may have noticed that the others would defer to me despite Momonga being the guildmaster, this is because I hold a high position in the higher world.” I just had to make myself look good first then I could give them the real reason hidden under pretences.

“To once again rete it to your experiences” I emphasised that idea so they kept thinking of us as way beyond their petty mortal struggles. “I am akin to the heiress of an empire while Momonga for example is a prominent merchant. Or I suppose was.” They were about to interrupt me there but I shut them up with a finger because now I was getting to the point. This was the bit they’d actually want to hear.

“That phrasing is part of the reason you were abandoned. The moment we came to this world myself and Momonga lost the ability to go back.” They all gasped, Cocytus letting out a sharp hiss of cold air.

“We don’t know why, how or even who did this to us though we have our suspicions. Despite that we are certain that we lost our ability to leave. That was what caused all the commotion in the throne room on arrival to this world, we realised we were trapped here. Now obviously your creators left long before that. So it is entirely unreted to the reason they left in the first pce but it’s the reason they aren’t here now. We knew something odd was going to happen even if we didn’t suspect this.”

Now time to make everyone else look bad. “We sent out a call to all the guild members who could be contacted and told them to at least come back on that day to see what would happen. Herohero, Peroroncino and Bukubukuchagama responded but only Herohero turned up in the end. Even he decided to leave early.”

“The reason for all this is simple priorities.” I decided to put it bluntly so they felt the rgest possible impact. “They all prioritised the lives they had in the upper world over you. Whether you take that as a personal failing or not is up to you.” I almost added that Momonga wouldn’t bme them but with Albedo as a troublesome element I didn’t actually want them sympathising with him. That might lead to trouble.

The three Guardians sat there, digesting this new piece of information, but I wasn’t going to give them time to actually think about my story. I’m sure they could poke a thousand holes in it. “Now before I move on I should mention those who aren’t present.” I added.

“The twins will receive this information ter from both myself and Momonga together because of their age.” Otherwise Momonga might actually be angry enough to do something about it. Big softy on the kids. “Albedo, Sebas and Narberal might be told ter if they don’t demand an expnation from Momonga on their journey. The rest of the subordinates I leave it up to the discretion of their superiors. Gargantua wouldn’t understand anyway, Victim and Rubedo will be informed right after the twins because of their location but otherwise it’s up to you guardians mostly if you want to tell them or not.” I shrugged.

“Personally I’d recommend at least telling the area guardians with a few exceptions just because the change in leadership impacts them too but like I said up to you.” I continued. Yeah, I guess if I suggest something they’re going to take that as gospel but the area guardians are middle managers. They never get informed of anything, I’m sure they’ll appreciate it. Look at me being so generous I’m practically a saint.

The guardians looked a little blind-sided by me leaving the choice up to them but I wasn’t going to let them be dazzled for long. I cpped my hands. “Right. Now that’s over with let me expin what we were originally here for. Leadership positions.” I saw their faces change when a task was thrust upon them. Oh, I loved having subordinates that actually enjoyed being given work. It meant I could stick them with the boring stuff much more easily. Even better, I wouldn’t be causing any trouble for my allies while doing it and dad always taught me to be nice so they stayed allies.

“Demiurge remember that I told you to improve information sharing throughout the tomb?” I asked and the fiend nodded, his eyes glinting that in that gssy way. “That’s because you are going to be a lot more involved in running it from now on.”

“You wish us to take over the roles of the Supreme ones?” He asked sounding awed.

“In a manner of speaking.” I agreed. “To be more exact though we will not be appointing any new guild members from this point forward or at least for the near future. Despite your role you are still our subordinates.”

“Of course.” He quickly back-pedalled, bowing in supplication. “I would never presume myself equal to a Supreme one.”

“Good.” I nodded to accept both the apology and the loyalty. “More accurately we will be creating new positions for you to fill that will be responsible for simir tasks but divided into more manageable portions for you. Also obviously they will be subject to the orders of active guild members.” Not sure if I had to say active but Momonga could always be swayed by Albedo. Or someone from this world might have the ability to mimic one of the guild members, though I doubt that’s gonna happen.

“You will all gain a role within the tomb and outside of it. It is your responsibility to bance the two and complete all tasks given to you.” I loved that they all just nodded rather than compining about the extra work.

After that I began handing out job assignments.

  ---

After giving the guardians their jobs what I did with my time was entirely up to me. I could go take a bath if I wanted. Though there were way more fun things I could be doing with all this free time that suddenly nded in my p. We still didn’t have a map of the surrounding region. Unfortunately that meant I couldn’t just go around causing indiscriminate trouble because I just didn’t know which areas had actual resistance. Plus it was no fun if the trouble wasn’t personalised. There was however one pce we had completely mapped where I could cause all the trouble I wanted. Even better it was right outside.

I stood up from the throne and teleported to the entrance of the tomb where the Pleiadies waited for me as per my order. Well except Narberal but she was with Momonga at the moment. The rest though were here with me and we set out towards Carne with nefarious intentions. Hehe, I couldn’t wait.
