The forgotten echoes

Ghosts of the Machine: Season Two

Episode 27 – Echoes of the Forgotten

Kade Voss didn’t move. He barely breathed.

The thing in front of him—the Hunter—wasn’t flesh. It wasn’t machine. It was something in between, a distortion of reality itself. And it knew his name.

Selene’s finger hovered over the trigger, but she didn’t fire. Not this time. The bullets hadn’t worked. This thing wasn’t just fast—it was unstable, like it existed in multiple places at once.

Kade’s mind worked fast. Azazel2 didn’t make this. This was something else. Something that had been waiting.

The Hunter twitched. “Vossss… lost… in the Rift…”

The way it spoke—it wasn’t just mimicking. It understood.

Selene moved first. “We need distance.”

Kade snapped out of it. “Move.”

They took off down the tunnel, but the world around them wasn’t normal anymore. The walls flickered, pieces of the subway rewinding and glitching, like they were trapped inside a corrupted simulation. Kade’s vision blurred, his balance wavering as if gravity itself was questioning its purpose.

  Selene cursed. “This isn’t real.”

  “No,” Kade muttered. “It’s worse.”

A low, droning hum filled the air, pressing into their skulls. The Hunters weren’t chasing. They didn’t have to. The tunnel itself was shifting, reshaping, keeping them inside.

Kade pressed his hand to the wall. It was solid—but it wasn’t right. His fingers tingled, like touching a live wire. His brain screamed at him that he shouldn’t be here.

Selene grabbed his wrist. “We have to find the center.”

  Kade looked at her. “What?”

She gestured around. “Look at it. This isn’t just Azazel2. This is something older. It’s pulling us in. That means there’s a source.”

It made sense. A terrible, horrifying kind of sense.

Kade steadied himself, forcing clarity through the distortion. “Then let’s find it.”

  The whispers grew louder.

And behind them, the Hunters smiled.

  To be continued…
