Into the void

  Episode 14: Into the Void

  Opening: The Struggle Within

Kade’s grip tightened around his sword, but his hand felt heavy, the blade seeming to grow heavier with every passing second. The shadows pressed in on him, not just physically but mentally. The Abyss was not a force he could just slice through—it was part of him now, entangled with his thoughts, whispering in the corners of his mind.

The air felt thicker, suffocating. The ground beneath him cracked open, deep fissures spiraling out from the epicenter of the rift. The dark energy swirled, a cyclone of malevolent force that seemed to breathe, to pulse with its own dark life. Kade’s heartbeat echoed in his chest, loud, frantic. He felt like he was drowning in a storm of shadow, each wave crashing over him, pulling him under.

But his eyes—his focus—never wavered. Not yet. He wouldn’t let it break him. Not now.

Before him, the creature that once had Sable’s face—the twisted, abominable version of her—continued to stand, its eyes wide with unblinking darkness. It opened its mouth, the sound of its voice filling Kade’s skull like a thousand voices shrieking in unison.

“You can’t fight this forever, Kade.” The creature’s voice twisted around him, wrapping around his mind like a vice. “It will break you. It will consume you. It always has, it always will.”

Kade swallowed hard, pushing against the tide of despair crashing down on him. He clenched his jaw. The Abyss may have tried to break him before, but this time… this time, he was ready. It wouldn’t claim him so easily.

“Shut up,” he growled. “You can’t break me.”

The creature’s smile stretched unnaturally wide. It wasn’t Sable’s smile anymore, it was something darker, more insidious. A cold laugh reverberated through the atmosphere, making Kade’s skin crawl.

“You already are broken, Kade. You just don’t see it yet. Your mind… your soul… they’re mine now. And your friends… your team? They will fall, just like you.”

Kade staggered slightly, the voice gnawing at his insides. His pulse quickened. His vision blurred. The Abyss had always been a creeping, insidious thing. It fed on the doubts and fears, twisted them into something monstrous.

Into the Void: The Descent Begins

Kade’s feet slipped as the ground beneath him split open wider. He felt himself falling, his senses growing dim as the swirling mass of shadows consumed him. He tried to fight it, to focus on his sword, on the small flicker of light that still remained within him.

The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.

But the pull of the Abyss was undeniable.

The world tilted, spiraling downward into the void. The city around him faded away, swallowed by darkness. He could hear the echoes of those he had failed—of his friends, his family—voices lost to the shadows. Their calls mingled with the distorted voices of the Abyss, all of them pressing down on him, breaking him from within.

The rift around him expanded, revealing the true horror behind it. The Abyss wasn’t just a force of destruction—it was a living, breathing entity, a sentient, malevolent being that was far older than anything Kade had ever imagined. It was the very fabric of darkness, of fear, of oblivion itself.

And now, it was starting to consume him.

Kade felt his consciousness waver. His legs gave out beneath him, his body collapsing into the void. His thoughts fragmented as the pull of the Abyss grew stronger. It was overwhelming, like drowning in cold, empty space, unable to find a way back to the surface.

“You are mine,” the creature’s voice whispered in his ear, its breath cold against his skin. “Your fears, your pain, your doubts—they’re all a part of me now. You cannot escape.”

Kade squeezed his eyes shut, but it was too late. The darkness consumed him.

A New Power: The Shifting Soul

When Kade’s eyes opened again, it wasn’t the world he had known. The rift had swallowed him whole, pulling him into a twisted, darkened dimension that seemed to stretch forever, a landscape devoid of light or warmth. The air felt wrong, thick with malice. The ground was cracked and broken, a barren wasteland of ash and dust.

A low, guttural laugh echoed around him. The creature that had once been Sable was standing before him again, its eyes burning with that cold, empty blackness. Its form flickered, shifting, like a mirage caught between worlds.

“Welcome to the true Abyss, Kade. This is where you belong. This is where you are meant to be.”

Kade’s chest tightened as he tried to summon the power within him, but the darkness was suffocating. He felt weak. This place, this void—it fed on his strength, draining him slowly, piece by piece.

But then something stirred deep within him. A flicker. A spark. It was subtle at first, like the faintest light in the far distance. But it was enough.

The energy inside him stirred, and Kade realized with a shock that something had changed. He wasn’t the same man he had been before. The Abyss had tried to claim him, to twist him into its own image, but instead… it had made him stronger.

His sword crackled with power, the light of his will flickering against the encroaching darkness. He could feel it now, the raw, untapped potential within him—the rage, the defiance, the need to protect what remained of the world.

He had made a choice. And the Abyss would not take him.

Kade stepped forward, his sword raised high, his eyes burning with the fire of determination. “I’m not yours,” he said, his voice low but firm. “I’ll tear this place apart if I have to.”

The creature before him laughed again, its voice dripping with malice. “You are too weak to stop me. You are nothing.”

But Kade’s eyes narrowed. “We’ll see about that.”

With a roar, he charged forward, his sword glowing with a blinding light, cutting through the darkness like a beacon of hope in the void. The ground beneath him trembled as he advanced, the power surging through him, building with every step.

The creature’s form began to ripple, warping and distorting as it tried to regain control. The Abyss was weakening—just enough to give Kade a fighting chance.

  But it wasn’t over yet.

  The Choice: Fight or Fall

As Kade advanced, the shadows surged forward, attacking him with ferocity. But each time they struck, his sword cut through them like paper. The darkness recoiled, hissing, as if it were afraid. For the first time, Kade felt like he was gaining ground.

But then the world around him trembled again. The rift in the sky above him cracked wide open, and from it, a massive figure emerged, one that dwarfed the creature before him. It was a being of pure shadow, a monstrous entity whose very presence threatened to swallow him whole.

It was the true form of the Abyss—the heart of the darkness.

Kade’s breath caught in his throat as he looked up, realizing the true magnitude of the fight that lay ahead. He had only just begun to understand the Abyss—and now, it had come for him.

The choice was simple: fight and risk everything, or fall and let the world burn.

But Kade had already made his decision.

With a final, defiant roar, he charged forward, ready to face whatever came next.
