Dungeon exam

“This is a class 1 dungeon,” the instructor announced. “The monsters aren’t much of threat, but you still need to be careful. If you get crowded, you could get overwhelmed by even the weakest monsters. Keep that in mind.”

The class nodded. “Should we stay together?” Hanna asked.

  Rose nodded.

Dungeons were a separate dimension on their own, so they could take any form they wanted. A labyrinth, a forest, a dessert, even a giant castle. In their case, the dungeon took the form of an island with a jungle.

There were twenty students, each of them getting a drone to watch over them. The grades will depend on how well they perform individually or in a group inside the dungeon, so they could either go alone or form teams.

They were also informed that the instructors added some other challenges to test the students.

  “Let’s go,” Rose told Hanna.

They went into the jungle and was immediately met with goblins with brown skin. Hanna was quick to cast a spell and froze the ground along with the goblins’ feet.

Rose finished them off with wind blades. Once the monsters were dead, they continued into the jungle. After taking down three more groups of goblins, Rosa and Hana finally ran into the challenge placed by the instructors.

It was dirt golem. It took the form of a bulky humanoid figure with hammer-shaped hands.

“Aim high!” Hanna exclaimed as she activated her magic spell and sent a blizzard towards the golem, freezing it.

“Roger that!” Rose responded as she conjured a magic circle over her head and fired a blast of fire into the sky.

When the blast exploded it rained down fire balls at the golem. Steam erupted as the fire balls hit the frozen golem. Just when they thought they defeated the golem, a stone golem charged out of the smoke.

Rose’s wings materialized as she grabbed Hanna and flew away to avoid the golem’s charge. Hanna took out a sphere from her pocket and tossed it at the golem, it exploded with a white smoke and froze the golem.

  “Drop me!” Hanna called out.

Rose released her above the stone golem. That’s when Hanna activated her spell, creating a massive shard of ice that she smashed onto the golem’s head.

  The golem crumbled.

Samira watched the live feed of the footage showing one of the transmigrators. The young man had become a dungeon explorer and formed his own group. Thanks to his ability to convert mana into flames without the use of magic circles, he could easily clear class 2 dungeons and explore class 3 dungeons.

He hadn’t shown any hostile actions, so they decided to keep observing him for now. But it was clear he was the most active among them.

“What about the others?” Samira asked.

“The older woman and the little kid are staying with the mage association, while the young woman was recruited by the Aquila family,” an agent answered.

  “Do they know they’re transmigrators?”

“The association is aware, but it seems the young woman is hiding it from the Aquila family.”

Samira nodded. “Increase surveillance on this one,” Samira pointed at the screen showing the young man.

  “Yes ma’am!”

No matter how much Floral academy tries to remain fair, it does not change that some students have the advantage of being supported by their backers.

When Rose took the entrance exam, she barely passed even with all the studying and training she did in preparation for it. But the others were carried by the artifacts and equipment given to them by their backers.

But Rose couldn’t complain anymore, especially because she was already ahead of the curve. With her hard work and talent supported by Lucas’s artifacts, Rose was already unmatched in her year.

“Those wings are unfair,” Hanna commented as Rose landed beside her.

“I think it’s fair considering how many times I was dropped from the sky by that demon,” Rose grumbled.

Marge emphasized that the best teacher was the fear of death. Unfortunately for Rose, that proved to be true. Additionally, Marge was an expert in making sure Rose didn’t get used to the fact that Marge would catch her. She often faked accidentally dropping her, or failing to catch her, only for her to land on a cushion and get flung back into the sky with wind magic.

“Well, thanks to that, you learned how to fly in a week.”

“I don’t think it was worth the trauma,” Rose grumbled as they reached the dungeon core.

They weren’t going to destroy it, nor did they have the ability to so with a barrier surrounding it. Dungeons were regularly cleared for resources, so once they are conquered, organizations or rich houses manage them with regular dungeon raids. The dungeon boss doesn’t respawn, but the other monster and resources regularly respawns, making it a worthy investment.

Low class dungeons are also used for training, like their exam.

  “Are we done?” Rose asked.

Hanna just shrugged. “Let’s just wait here,” she replied. “By the way, why did you only use the wings? Didn’t your brother give you a bunch of artifacts?”

The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.

“Yeah. But if I did that, I'd be no different from the others who just relies on artifacts,” Rose answered. “I still brought them though,” Rose showed Hanna a bracelet and a necklace, along with a case on her waist that held four golems. “I have the rest in my mana pocket.”

“Doesn’t your brother call that a Spatial core?”

“Yeah, but I’m already used to calling it a mana pocket.”

“I guess when you’re a living treasure chest, you can do what you want,” Hanna chuckled, making Rose slap her on the arm.

“My brother did give me this one as a precaution,” Rose took out a marble attached to a chain. Inside the marble was a humanoid sabretooth tiger with silver fur. “Just in case of an emergency, this could go toe-to-toe with a king-ranked mage.”

“Damn... I wish he was my brother too,” Hanna joked.

“If he gets married to Ms. Macey, it could happen,” Rose joked back.

It was pretty obvious that Macey liked Lucas, but her brother was never the type to catch on to such things since he never had a relationship before. The best way to deal with him is to be as direct as possible, which is apparently something Macey wasn’t good at, or she still had conflicting feelings.

As they were talking, a man landed at the edge of the clearing. “Well, look what we have here,” the man said as Rose and Hanna got on-guard.

The man was wearing green combat suit with visible armor plating. He had a purple curved wand in his hand and three purple orbs floating around him.

“Who are you?!” Rose questioned as she grabbed two marbles from her case.

“Someone that’ll be cashing in a lot of money for you brats,” the man replied as the orbs fired a purple beam.

Rose’s necklace glowed, creating a powerful barrier to block the attacks. At the same time, two golems materialized and immediately fired their weapons at the man. The two Iris: Assault infantry did not hesitate to fire lethal attacks, aiming for the man’s chest.

The man quickly retreated back into the sky as one of his orbs were destroyed by the attacks. “What the hell?!”

His shock didn’t there as a chain of ice wrapped around his leg and pulled him back to the ground. He was about to get finished off by the golems, but another man arrived.

“You can’t even handle children,” the new arrival stated as he looked down on the man. “You’re a disgrace.”

“My apologize lord Hexadus,” the man said on his knees.

The man named Hexadus was a middle-aged man with brown hair in a soldier cut. He has a fairly large build and seems to be equipped with artifact gauntlets.

The golems didn’t wait for more introductions as they fired at Hexadus, but he easily blocked their attacks with a shield that came out of his gauntlet. Hexadus observed them closely before he finally spoke. “Baron-ranks at best, but your artifacts are of good quality,” Hexadus mentioned before his gauntlets began to glow.

Mana began to swirl behind him, forming into a giant humanoid form. It took the form of a giant monster with gray skin and one eye.

“He’s a summoner,” Hanna said as she froze the ground beneath them. “Likely duke-ranked if he could summon a cyclops.”

“Sounds like an emergency to me!” Rose yelled as she threw the marble of Lucas’s golem.

Ragnar materialized with a roar that made even the cyclops take a step back. “A monster lord?” Hexadus’s eyes widened. He scoffed. “We’re leaving,” he grabbed his henchmen and took off into the sky. “Hold them off!” he ordered the cyclops.

The cyclops charged, tanking all the bullets being shot at it, but it fell pathetically as Ragnar dashed through it, tearing its whole upper body apart.

Rose was about to go after Hexadus with her wings materializing, but Hanna stopped her. “Fighting in the ground is a guaranteed win for us with your brother’s golem, but in the sky, it’s a different story. Don’t be reckless Rose.”

Rose gritted her teeth but gave up on chasing Hexadus. It took about half an hour of waiting before the instructors arrived at the scene, which was too long considering they supposed to have drones monitoring them.

But that’s when they found out that the other students were attacked as well. Nobody died or got kidnapped, but that was the reason the instructors took so long to arrive. When they confirmed that Rose and Hanna could handle themselves, they prioritized the other students.

Once they were out of the dungeon, they were greeted by medical staff and Rose could even see reporters being pushed away in the distance.

“Wait till the they find out you drove back a duke-ranked mage,” Hanna whispered.

“I like attention, but the media is too annoying for me,” Rose replied. “And it was my brother’s golem that scared him off.”

Rose liked attention, but she preferred them in the form of acknowledgements from her superiors.

“Rose!” Valeri pushed through the enforcers to get to her daughter.

Normally, nobody would have been allowed through the barricade after such an incident due to safety reasons. But who would want to get in the way of a woman being escorted by a literal angel with two pairs of wings.

Hanna stared at the angel with wide eyes, while Rose just stood there in confusion. “Where’d you get an angel mom?”

“I am Halo,” the angel spoke with a feminine voice, causing everyone around them to flinch in surprise. “I am tasked of ensuring Madam Valeri’s safety.”

“I feel poor,” Hanna muttered as she just walked away.

“You really don’t know how to keep a low profile huh,” Althea mentioned as she stepped out the elevator.

“What did I do?” Lucas asked in confusion as he placed down the mana circuit tracer.

Althea answered by turning her tablet towards him, showing an article of Halo escorting his mother. His mother was wearing a veil, so her face wasn’t shown, but people still freaked out at the sight of the angel.

“I bet every religious group is trying to find your golem right now.”

Lucas chuckled. “There’s a bunch of angel monsters out there,” Lucas replied. “Besides, I tasked that golem to protect my mother after I found out that my sister was attacked during her exam,” Lucas said through gritted teeth.

That’s when Althea noticed a monitor receiving coordinates. “Don’t tell me that’s...”

“I don’t care what people do as long as it doesn’t concern me, but these people attacked my family,” Lucas said with calm tone. “I don’t like that.”

Althea realized that she didn’t see a single one of the three demons working at the company.

“My lord. Why did we retreat so soon,” one of the agents asked as they arrived at their recon base.

“Do any of you know how golems are ranked?” Hexadus asked, but none of his agents replied. Which wasn’t a surprise since there weren’t a lot of golem experts in the world to spread that information. “Golems are ranked based on their energy output and performance. A student had a golem that had the energy output of a monster lord.”

The agents finally understood the reason for their sudden retreat. Even a weak monster lord needed multiple duke-ranked mages to deal with them. The only duke-ranked mage on their side was Hexadus. The rest were Viscount-ranked at best.

As they approached the base. Something crashed down behind them, blowing away a few of the agents. “Who’s there?!” Hexodus yelled.

“Ooohh~ delectable~” A pink-skinned demon moaned out as she stood over a body of an agent, his mana being drained out from his body.

“A demon?” Hexadus stared at the creature in shock.

“We finally get to have fun,” a red skinned demon spoke from the sky.

“Lucas told us to make sure we leave no traces,” a pale skinned one added.

“It’ll be fine,” the one with pink skin spoke. “There’s enough demonic energy cultivators in this world to blame,” she stated as she licked her lips. “Shall we feast?”

“You fre-” Hexadus didn’t get to finish as a pale hand went through his chest.

The pale skinned demon was already behind him.

“Sorry, we’re in quite a hurry.”
