As Jingyi lay on the forest floor, her body wracked with exhaustion and pain, she couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction at having completed her mission. As an A.I. system, her purpose was ultimately to help her host complete missions and attain the desired result. Now she had faced challenges and danger, she had emerged victorious, and with her own hand accomplished a mission. What she felt at this moment could only be described as euphoric.
With trembling hands, Jingyi pushed herself upright, her muscles protesting with every movement as she surveyed the scene before her. The bear lay motionless in a pool of blood on the forest floor. With a sense of detachment, Jingyi retrieved her sword from the bear's lifeless body. She knew that time was of the essence – she needed to harvest the meat before it spoiled, lest her hard-won prize go to waste.
Drawing upon the survival skills she had picked up, Jingyi set to work. She began by field dressing the bear, which involved removing the internal organs to cool the carcass and prevent spoilage. Next, she skinned the bear to remove the fur. Skinning required precision to avoid damaging the pelt anymore so since it was valuable. Afterward, she then began butchering the bear, separating the meat into different cuts on the fur. The bear provided a significant amount of meat meaning more money when sold. As she was cutting the bear meat Jingyi separated the thick layer of fat, which she could be rendered down into bear grease. This grease has various uses, including cooking, waterproofing leather, and making soap.
Jingyi wished she could preserve the meat through methods such as smoking, drying, or freezing. However, freezing in this world would require technology that wasn’t present. the other option smoking and drying also currently wasn’t viable. Finally, she dug a hole and buried any parts of the bear that she could not use such as the oragns, ensuring they did not attract scavengers. Jingyi made a separate hole for the bones as they could be used later.
Once she had spent the night butchering the bear, Jingyi turned her attention to the task of creating a fire to cook the meat she set aside for herself. With her strength flagging and her energy reserves beyond depleted she got up and went to gather the items needed to start a fire.
Gathering together a pile of dry wood and tinder, Jingyi set to work, her hands shaking with fatigue as she struggled to build a campfire. With her hand still trembling, Jingyi struck her sword against a piece of flint, sending sparks flying into the dry tinder below. She repeated the motion again and again, her hunger outweighing her fatigue as she focused all her energy on igniting the flames.
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
After what felt like an eternity, a small spark caught hold, igniting the tinder and sending tendrils of smoke curling upward into the night sky. Jingyi's heart soared with relief as the flames took hold, casting a warm glow that banished the darkness and illuminated her makeshift campsite.
With the fire roaring steadily, Jingyi carefully skewered the bear meat on a makeshift spit, positioning it over the flames to cook. She watched as the meat sizzled and crackled, filling the air with the tantalizing aroma of roasted meat.
As she waited for the meat to cook, the scent of roasted meat wafting through the air and the crackle of the fire soothing her weary soul, Jingyi closed her eyes. Jingyi intended to rest briefly while waiting for the meat to cook, but exhaustion overtook her, and she slipped into a deep, dreamless sleep. However, the smell of burning meat roused her from her slumber, her senses alerting her to the imminent danger.
With a start, Jingyi jolted awake, her eyes snapping open as she realized the fire had burned too hot, charring the meat on the spit. Acting swiftly, she reached out to pull the charred meat from the flames, but in her haste, she misjudged the distance and the hot oil dripped onto her hand, causing her to flinch and drop the meat.
Cursing under her breath, Jingyi quickly grabbed some dirt to cool off her burned hand, wincing as the pain seared through her senses. Once the pain subsided to a tolerable level, she looked down at the burnt meat with a mixture of frustration and resignation.
Knowing that she couldn't afford to waste any food, Jingyi picked up the somewhat charred meat. With a cold look, she took a bite, her taste buds recoiling at the bitter, acrid flavor. Despite her body's instinctive revulsion, she forced herself to swallow the burnt morsel, knowing that she needed to replenish her strength.
Finishing the charred meat, Jingyi skewered another piece and placed it over the flames to cook. This time, she remained vigilant, refusing to succumb to sleep until the meat was cooked to perfection. As she waited for the meat to cook, Jingyi's mind wandered, her thoughts consumed by the challenges that lay ahead. She knew that she needed to return to the village and trade the bear meat for supplies, but the journey back would not be easy.
Once the meat was cooked to her satisfaction, Jingyi waited until sunrise before wrapping the meat in bear fur and attempting to drag it back toward the small village. However, she quickly realized that the load was too heavy for her to manage alone.
With a sigh of frustration, Jingyi began to reduce the load, discarding any excess weight that she could spare. Despite her efforts, the burden remained heavy, and Jingyi found herself struggling to make progress as she trudged through the forest.
To make matters worse, she soon found herself under attack by a group of venomous snakes, their hissing forms coiling and striking at her with deadly precision. With her survival instincts kicking into overdrive, Jingyi fought back with her sword, fending off the snakes with swift and precise strikes.
Jingyi managed to emerge victorious, however, she had been bitten a few times by the snake. Using her blade, Jingyi made a few incisions over the bite mark to drain as much of the venom as she could. Gathering her strength, she continued on her journey, pushing herself to the limit as she dragged the precious cargo of bear meat toward the village.
As she finally reached the entrance to the village, Jingyi was halted by the guard, who eyed her warily and asked, “What is your purpose here?” With a steely gaze, Jingyi met the guard's gaze and replied, "I’m a hunter and I’m here to trade." Her voice was firm and unwavering.
